I had 3 of the best Striper Trips ever with Capt Chris Gatley from Ardent Angler guide servive.

It's all about the Gamma Fluro Carb !

Day 1 Wed May 17th

"Quote" from the Capt of the Ship !

I am pretty humble and low key guy but I must say that my guys put major meat in the boat today. Art, Bob, George and Anthony boated over 45 striped bass with many over 30 pounds. The biggest measured 45 inches but we had plenty of low 40 inch range fish. Two weighed 40 pounds!

Day 2 Thurs May 18th

Bob,Tony (dar-lynn),Charlie (aka Mr Crab) joined me on a Charter today.

The Capt of the boat loaded the live well. The Capt made the short run and anchored up.It took 10 minutes before the Bass started chewing and after that is was non stop action with Bass from 20-35 lbs.All Bass were caught on Bunker heads.

Day 3 May 19th 44th birthday trip

Mad dog bite !!

Michael,Kevin,Bob joined me today.

"Quote" from the Capt of the ship !

Today, we placed 100 bunker in the livewell. We snagged 50 and pre-purchased 50 to help expedite things. By 9 AM - we ran out of bait - We only caught 15 bluefish - You do the Math - I lost track somewhere in the madness!

I have to say the 3 trips we fished the same spot and it was non stop action all 3 days.

3 of the best Striper days of my life a 40 & a 35 lber & countless #'s of 20 - 30 lb bass in 3 days !

Guys Capt Chris Gatley is top notch & a great friend.Capt Chris all I have to say is Thank you for the best 3 days of Catching ever ! Can't wait for my trip on Monday June 5th.

From yesterday's Star Ledger

Ristori: Pallone stops federal license
Sunday, May 21, 2006

BY AL RISTORI
Star-Ledger Staff

Rep. Frank Pallone (D-N.J.) put a crimp in plans by the National Marine Fisheries Service to impose a federal saltwater fishing license when he offered an amendment to reauthorization of the Magnuson-Stevens Act. This act prevents the agency from imposing new fees on recreational fishermen. It was anticipated the fee would be $20-$25, and that money would go to a contractor rather than to improving fisheries.

Pallone separately secured a commitment from Rep. Richard Pombo (R-Calif.), chairman of the House Resources Committee, to hold a hearing and work on language concerning the current moratorium on striped bass fishing in the Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ), the area seaward of three miles where stripers are presently protected but which NMFS proposes to reopen.

Rep. Jim Saxton (R-N.J.) worked with Pallone to pass an amendment expanding the current definition of "fishing community" to include bait and tackle shops, marina owners and operators, charter boats, and other elements of the economy dependent on recreational fishing. This amendment will help ensure that fisheries managers must more closely consider the economic impacts of their decisions on the entire recreational fishing community.

Art Berkman from Pompton Plains had a great striper catch Wednesday while fishing with Capt. Chris Gatley on Ardent Angler at Raritan Reach. Bunker heads produced 40-pounders released by Berkman and George Valentini of G&B Fishing Systems in Cliffwood Beach, while Bob Widdoss from Pa. released a 35-pounder -- and Anthony Testa joined in releasing other bass in the 20- to 30-pound class.

Al Ristori appears regularly in The Star-Ledger. He may be reached at cristori@aol.com

I was along side you guys for a while snagging bunker along Staten Island on Friday. Pretty crazy weather out there! I am sure there are not too many times in Raritan Bay will you get a weather alert about near by water spouts.

Sounds like you guys had a banner day.

The fishing has been hard to beat. That was my first trip in 2 weeks.... the fishing this spring has been outstanding.

Cheers
Bill

Art-

Thanks for the great words and fun last week. I am off today due to the wind. Rich is out and getting his arse kicked bad.

barking dog - that weather was not the worst I have been in but hell, i don't like any of it. We were running back out to the grounds around 9:30am with another tank full of bait. I saw the USCG boat coming down the channel and I said to my guys - that this is weird, i rarely see the USCG boat here. Then, a cloud to water lightning strike and I cut that USCG boat off so fast. You know, I was always waiting to try a high speed U-Turn just like the coasties do in there gun boats and in the movies. That was my first chance and I gave her hell. I headed right for great kills and hunkered down. Then I heard about the water spouts etc...crazy

I just wish I had my capt's cam video for all of that. I could of had some really cool video to add to my website.

anyway, I have all new respect for the real clamman and his crew. These guys really know how to fish and I enjoyed watching them. To have them say it was there best ever charter trip makes me feel good. They have been around the block with charter cappies and I was a bit anxious that it was my turn. I guess I lived up to their expectations.

I try to run a tight ship and let people have fun. We did just that. Plus I work hard. Each morning I was at the boat by 4:30AM getting things done. With an hour ride to my boat from my house, it makes for a long day. Words like these make it worth it all - I picked a hard line or work and well, it's what I do!

Thanks guys -

p.s. Art I saved three more dates for 2007.

Thanks again artie and the boys!

Never really want to be out in tough weather conditions but its good to know there are a lot of places in and around raritan bay to duck inside in a short run.

I thought all of the boats working on those bunker were very courteous. some times its not that civil. Crossed lines were greeted with a laugh and apology....not crossed words.

you guys looked to be having a real good time. I was in the area but did not see that water spout. I made a move to keansburg area when it was announced. There was an ugly storm again later just after high tide. I decided that was a good time to call it a day. We made the run back to twin lights at an accelerated pace.

I like your boat...it looks real sharp.

Cheers
