Tom,

We fish Barnegat on a regualr basis. We're out of Berkley Heights- @ 39 buouy. Plenty of good spots for bass, fluke and weakies!!! Think most barners fish CM area. Last year was our first summer/fall with a boat and we had some great days flukin. Think the boat was pulled out of the water before the fall season really heated up for bass. Bass have been slow so far but this weekend should be good. Find the creeks and river mouths south of # 39, or head across by the mouth of the inlet (north side). good luck and what are you in?? We have 21 ft. blue Striper.

Great fishing in Barnegat Bay.Go on your browser and type in JAY MANN.You'll be able to see a daily report from great areas in the back bay and
out front. If you can't find the address e-mail me and I'll send it to you.He gives a great rundown on surf fishing also.Be careful in that inlet.Make some drifts and observe before you try to get out of the channel.Try to be there on a low tide so you can see hidden rocks, bars etc.

Be careful around the inlet. It can be a lot worse than it looks at times.

i guess i don't know the spots yet, i still fish the d-bay spring and fall. i read an article in salt water sportsman about striper fishing out of the manasquan inlet, it said in may and june stripers leave the ches.and hudson and feed on huge schools of bunker that school up there. i'm very interested in finding out more about that and where exactly to go . any info would be appreciated,or i'd like to get together with someone familiar with that area and head out fishing. i have a 21c.c. polar and i'm located in ocean gate all summer

Lofty,

We should hook up. At least by phone or email. Is Ocean Gate North of Toms River bridge? r u closer to Manasquan inlet or Barnegat??? We'll be out allll summer. Pros by no means, but know the areas south of TR bridge well in the bay. I'm in Lavallette and my buddy is across the bay in Berkely Heights, close to Tom's river. I prefer to go right outside of IBSP in search of bunker with my bunker snagger. When I'm, surf fishin, I've see huge schols of bunker usually through the middle of May through July- from PP to IBSP. Let's talk.

Tom,
I run out of Lanoka Harbor as well.. PLENTY of good fishing in the bay. A lot of slight structure changes that spell fish. Plus the inlet and the surrounding area as well. What kind of boat are you fishin'?

jjsax,
I agree, we need to create a bigger Banegat Bay BB contigent!more eyes and more lines equals better fishin'
email will work great to hook up

ocean gate is right at the point of the toms river where it meets the bay . i think that is in the middle of the two inlets.very close to the seaside bridge.i'll be putting my boat at the ocean gate yacht basin in mid may.from that point on i'll be ready to fish up that way.my e-mail is lofty68@verizon.net. drop me a line and when i get up there i'll give you a call and we'll get out, hopefully for some stripers out in front.i'm no pro either ,just like getting out.

Even though Ocean Gate is about in the middle of the 2 inlets, Barnegat is much faster to get to.

Only 1 no wake zone, no bridges or canals.

There is very good fishing in the bay. Starting in May/June with large Weakfish and nice size Bass to Mid summer Fluke and smaller Weakfish and back to good Bass fishing in the fall. You can even catch some nice size Tog from the jetty's in sping and fall, just be carefull around the rocks. Pay attention to detail of when, where and how and you will catch as many fish as you want. Good luck...

Nice,
Its great to see the barnie crowd in full force. Captain Deanald here fishing out of ocean gate area with first mate JJsaxon. put the new 21 center striper in the water 3 weeks ago and unfortunatley the early season has not produced so well. I've been fishing this area only for the past year but have also heard the same comments as regulator (season starts pretty much in May and the fall run in our area seems to be better for the striper than the spring.) have had great showing working the sods for fluke and striper but still have not been able to work the weakies too well in the myers hole area. i would love to see more reports specific to our area and i hope this contact info puts us all in more direct contact.

Actually, last year during the two middle weeks in May we were catching the 30-34" tiderunners. Not in great numbers, but 2-3 per angler per day was the rule, mostly because the blues were also on the feed in the same area.

I run a 23? custom Dusky named Debbie M out of Bob?s Bay in Barnegat. Since I charter part time I usually do not post reports here as I am not a paid sponsor of TBB. Oh, and please don?t tell my client?s there are no fish in the bay ;)

With regards to weaks, last year?s run of tiderunners in May ? June was a little off but still got into several fish to 12 pounds. Like One More Drift said during the summer there were a ton of small weaks in the bay. Most of my trips caught 75-100 fish to 20? and the children that came out during that time had a blast redface.gif

netters have been working close to shore. Not sure what they are getting. Today they were working from the beach to about a mile out. Infront of IBSP areas A12 to A18. Two days ago they were on the beach in Seaside Heights. Someone said that they were on weakies but that wouldn't be my guess. Ocean was fiarly flat today and not many boats were out.

Like Waterman said they are netting weaks. The thing it stinks that they are getting many of the spawners before they come in the bay to do their thing. Some, including myself, believe that the best years in the bay for catching big spawning weaks are those years that we have nasty weather during the end of April into May which keeps the netters in the slip many days limiting the numbers of spawners they take.

it is true there are alot more fish down there than people realize i was out again this evening and got another bass quickly, the problem is having the conditions to do it in and also most other fisherman think you are scaring the fish away so they get upset with me but when i am in the water down there it does not bother them that bad.but today there was even more signs of fish moving in

The rain don't bother me but 30 MPH winds will keep me away. Hard to be effect at bottom fishing when your drifting at 12 knots!

I agree, but does it look like its that much wind on Sat. I thought only about 17 was what they were calling for.

I agree the rain don't bother me, but the W*** might be a factor. calling for 15-25mph and last I checked a 60% chance of rain. But I won't believe it til Saturday Morning.

Hello, I have been fishing the Barnegat Inlet area (bay and offshore) for quite some time and would like to be part of the Barnegat Bay crowd.
I currently fish a 27 Contender out of High Bar Harbor. When I am not working and the kids are not playing baseball, we fish as much as we can. I will be glad to contribute to the reports and look forward to discussions on channel 78.

Contender 7 - Me too, can I get in. Just moved into the area, Beach Haven West, and am just learning the area. I will be monitoring Channel 78 now - Gadget III.
Went out Sunday for Stiper, beautiful day, but could not get past the bluefish, took enough for dinner and shark bait then had enough.

The bluefish bite was constant just outside the inlet on Saturday. These fish were so hungry, me and another guy hooked up on the same fish at the same time. We both thought we got into a slammer or striper, until after about 45 seconds, we realized what had happened. His hook came loose and told me I could have the fish, unless it was a striper. I was wondering if the other guy was a Barner. If so, I wanted to thank him for a good fight.

Took my two boys (5 ½ and 7 ½) out last night in the fog. Constant action with two pound blues on poppers close to port in Barnegat.

On Sunday I went solo at first light and had five bass on rubba. Then lots of blues. Back in by 8.

Hey candy , how ya been ! have you been gathering bait at trenton ?

ID, I have been fine but without bait. I had shoulder surgery in April so I took this year off from gathering bait. I am healed enough to fish and run charters. Without herring I have been getting back to my roots and fishing places and ways in the bay I have not fished this time of year in many years. And I am having fun doing it!

Was the Big D herring run off this year? Seems like that from the reports or was it a late start?

Kurt, I'm also from Holiday Harbor (D Dock). I'm taking off Friday and am off all next week and plan to fish every day thats fishable. Let me know when you intend to go, and remember that channel 78 is the BB channel. Maybe we can help each other out or even tag team the fish.

I don't know what I'll target (Bass, Weaks, Fluke or even a trip to the reef for early sea bass) I usually settle on whatever has the highest chance of success. Last year at this time, I took the week off and nailed the tiderunners up to 34". Anyway, give me a hollar when you plan on going out.

Yea it was late and a bit off, we got bait good at times but at others it was tough .

Bassing came on as the season went on but the march cold and april heavy rains killed the best time of year for the large. Again , we got um but not like normal.

Anywho it's good to see ya around.

Fished inside oyster creek channel just off double creek on the i. beach park side. anchored and chunked clam Sunday around 6:30. We had one hit but didn't land any. The guy on the double creek side of the channell pulled in about 6 stripers. Frustrating but still fun
