Help with clams.

Where can I get fresh surf clams? I live on the Big D side of South Jersey about 1 mile from the Del. Mem. Br.
Shags in Pennsville is the closest bait shop but only carries frozen and salted.
Also, I?m fishing the Big D from shore with bloods now. When do the river stripers turn on to clams if at all?

What a lot of guys do that have trouble getting fresh clams is go to the local supermarket and ask the guy behind the counter to get you the biggest chowder clams he has. They are not the big ocean ones ,but they are fresh and they will work.
