I went to the flats today, even with the high winds. So strong it almost blew my car off the bridge getting there! LOL I only saw a couple boats in the flats, and the white caps, and the brown water!!
I spoke with a fish commish guy, and he said I will need a non resident tidal license!

What's up with the salt water license? Do I really need one?

It looked like nice water, but to get to the bay, you have to climb down a 200' steep cliff! The swimming area and the dock area were easy access, but on the other side.

I wanted to stop at Herbs Tackle, but I made a wrong turn, and all the traffic!! LOL bad trip today.

I checked Herb's web site, but they don't say how much for a "non resident tidal license".

I wonder if yaks or float tubes can get access to the flats? I just might purchase a yak or a tube.

Ugh what possessed you to try with the wind blowing 20+? A large portion of the area is only a few feet deep, so it gets all roiled up in a blow. Yes you need a tidal-water license in MD. You must've been at Elk Neck State Park. I always see folks fishing off the bank there, so there must be access to the shoreline. Bad day indeed...all the info you needed was available - all you had to do was ask (ahead of time!)
Better luck next time.

You have to have a tidal fishing license, you are actually fishing in fresh water if you want to think of it that way.

Stop in at Herbs and talk to Ele she will set you straight.

I was there today with about 60 other boats, am wind was tough, it got better by Noon.... We caught lots of "DINKS" ... We did see a guy catch a nice one about 30" plus on bait.

We saw lots of folks fishing from shore, not sure how they got there, or if they did any good.

Water temps were 54 to 59 F.
We used Chartruse twister tails 5" long.

Thanks for the report rjf3, water temps are rising... The flats can be very treacherous when the wind is blowing especially yesterday with the strong gusts
