Had the pleasure of fishing with Capt. Lou Grazioso last friday(sorry for the late report).

I met Capt. Lou and Capt. Al Ristori in Keyport early AM and headed out. Perfect day to be on the water.

The first drop was slow. I managed a whistle fish. Didn't see the hit. I picked up the rod to reel it in because we were leaving. Fish on smile.gif . My first striper of 2006.

We pulled anchor and tried spot number 2. We anchored up in 11 ft of water, 48 degrees. Clam slick started, baited up and casted it out. It took about .5 hour for them to turn on. Once it started, we had not stop action for quite a bit.

Apparently, my job was to get the small stripers out of the way for Capt. Al. His biggest was over 14 lbs. My biggest topped out about 13 lbs. We finished up with about 25 stripers. Several over the 28" mark. ;)

Very clean fish, some with sea lice. Circle hooks were used on all fish and all fish returned for another day.

Striper thumb in March. Nice way to start off the season!!!!

Capt. Al had the quote of the day. While he was release his big fish of the day, I had just landed one. I turned, showing my fish and asked Capt. Al if he released his yet because I wanted to compare the two fish. He looked at my fish and said, "that's the smallest striper caught so far!"

-----------------------------------------------

Saturday, I launched my boat.

What a forecast for Saturday. Rain rain rain. Almost canceled the trip. Good thing we used the wait and see approach.

Met my in-law Richie(Snagger) and his son Steven for a day of striper fishing. Picked up our clams and launched out of Keyport. Headed out to a spot and started a slick. We started in 10ft of water, wind(honking at times) out of the WSW, water temp about 48.5 degrees.

I had 2 fish on right away. 2nd fish being a keeper. Then nothing for about an hour. Just like yesterday, well into the outgoing and right around noon, it started to happen.

We had a couple of double hook ups and even had 1 triple hook up. It was quite a fun trip. We decided to call it quits when we turned and saw a storm coming. We left them biting.

Not to be left out of the report, Snagger lived up to his name. He, of course, snagged a striper -- with a circle hook to boot.

It was my first trip using circle hooks the entire time and that will now be my hook of choice. All 3 of us used circles.

We caught and released 30 stripers, with a few keepers. Not as many and not as big as yesterday.

Striper thumb was had by all :D .
