On Sunday I caught a tagged striper,from a boat
in the Keyport area.It was about 15" with a yellow tag near the tail. The tag looked like a wire,I didn't see numbers on it,I wasn't sure what to do so I released it with the tag. What should I have done?

If it was behind the 2nd dorsil and yellow plastic
that was probably a Littoral Society tag. There are #'s on the tag as well as the address of the littoral so. You can read the info # and address on the tag record the date and area and size at time of recapture release fish with tag and send a letter to littoral so. they will reply to you. Or you can remove tag and do all the above with sending in the tag. I have been tagging for 15 yrs
It is very rewarding. I love getting letters stating where and when one I tagged was recaptured. I hope this helped

Yup, sounds like an American Littoral Society tag. Google their site for info.

This is the form to send it in. (Need Adobe)
yea they say your suppose to remove the tag and send it in cause w/e information they get from that fish is better than nothing. What are did you catch the fish in?

American Littoral tag for sure, best thing to do is cut tag off and send tag in with size and general location fish was caught
Even if you can't read the tag numbers ,many times they can clean tag enough to get numbers off it
Long time tagger here with 470 returns,PLEASE keep sending those tags in
THANKS

I found a tag on the beach last year, put it into my tacklebox and forgot about it. A few weeks ago when I was going through my stuff, I found that tag. Since it was a Littoral Society tag, I printed out the form, taped the tag on, and sent it in. I got a call from a woman at the Littoral Society, and she said that unfortunately they could not process the tag because I did not have data on the fish it was attached to, but she did tell me what the fish weighed, how long the fish was, and when and where the tag was attached to the fish. (left this info on my voicemail) I only wish I knew what kind of fish it was.....a striper, a blue?????
