hey sledge - they are both versatile baits - you can catch many different salt & freshwater fish on bucktails & shads.

Bucktails - I keep an assortment from 1/4 up to 4 oz. in white, chartruse over white, & bunker.

The shads you'll see people tossing are mainly gonna be Storm Shads.

Other companies have jumped in that market like Tsunami.

The 4" Storm Bunker wildeye is the closest imitation i've seen to real peanut bunker. they swim great as well. i ALWAYS have them in my bag.
when you need more distance a standard white bucktail with a twister tail is great.

caught em on 2oz white bucktails, or charteuse

have also caught em on the bunker pattern storms

I have had more success with the bucktails, but have also used em more often. btw..no tails.

I've been chunking in the bay lately, but I use to use the storms under the bridge at I.R with a lot of success.

Gotta agree with LBI Surfrat, the storm shad looks awesome in the water.haven't been fortunate enough to land a striper with one yet,but have no doubt it will be a top go to bait.
Did land a few smallies with it!

I was just about to ask the same question in reference to which storm series the guys were useing in the rips, especially since the spot are such a hot bait I was thinking about trying the storm baits to simulate them. Thanks for the inform.

I have caught @ 75% of my bass on storms this year. I have fished them more than anything the last couple of years but have had great luck with them. I use the 4" bunker and the mullet patterns. make sure and use a teaser. ;)

Last time I was out in the rips was 2 weeks ago on a Sunday. We caught 18 stripers between 4 of us. 11 on live spot the other 7 on a Storm Shad. They're expensive but you can catch multiple fish on one where as you get 1 shot with a $3.50 spot. 1 storm got tore up, so we caught 7 fish using only 2 storms. Used about 20 spots for the other 11 stripers.

How do you fish those shad...slow like a BT or with some more action applied....I dont use artificials very much...thanks fellow fishheads

sometimes slow sometimes fast. It all depends on what the fish want. Play around and change up your retrieve until it becomes effective.

Joe, good luck. Give me a call. We'll be out there. It should be the 'lucky lean.'
