Hello everyone!
The time is really getting there. We didn't have a charter today, so we took advantage of the beautiful weather and ran down to the Cape May rips around noon with my father, my brother(rebounding from his sea sick trip last week!), and our good friend Joe. The water cooled down a bit, coming in at 68-71 degrees, depending on where you were fishing. On board, we had live eels, live peanut bunker, and live herring, in addition to plenty of artificials.
We pulled up to Prissy Wick, and split the baits between live peanuts and eels. As soon as we came across, the baits were slammed by bluefish. My brother Joe, decided to change it up and cast some metal to the waiting blues. He made a cast, landing perfectly right in front of the rip. He started his retrieve, and intially had a couple blues smack his jig. Just then, he set the hook and the drag started peeling! Could it be? On metal this early?
After a decent battle, the fish was up, and there it was...Mr. Linesider! The first drift of the 2004 fall striper season, and we were hooked up! Joe W. did a great job with the net, and we had our first bass of the fall 2004 season...a beautifully healthy 39" bass that pulled the Boga Grip down to 20lbs. What a way to get things started!

We continued to fish Prissy, and also made some moves slight inside and out to Overfalls. We didn't get any more bass, but had a great time BAILING bluefish, which are definitely getting bigger as the season progresses. We caught a ton of blues, and also had a couple weakfish to sweeten the catch.
It was a gorgeous day on the water, and it was made even better with the first striper of the season being caught! It only gets better from here! The water is still pretty warm, so as it cools down more of the local bass will get active, and more will migrate in!
I love this time of year!
