Get ready! I just checked and saw the Atlantic
City surf temperature hit 62.8. I got a reading
of 64 in back a few nights ago, but also saw it
at 69 degrees. These cold nights and NW winds
are causing a rapid drop. What do guys find to
be the magic #???

I don't think there's a magic number in the fall. Whenever the bait and bass are present the plugging will be good.

Thus far, we haven't seen huge numbers of bass, at least in the waters I fish, but the fishing is nonetheless good when conditions are right. I think the fish we've had thus far have been mostly local fish. We should start to see more migrants any day.

I agree with Bill, we could still target bass into July, (and did well) this year because that many hung around the back bay of S NJ. Its more a question of fish moving in.

Like Bill said, I think most of the bass that are
around now are locals. I was referring more to
the migrating fish. Last year, Oct. 17th was the
first night I got into a lot of large stripers. From
then on I caught bigger bass on a regular basis. The
water temp. that night was 62 degrees. Any time!

My magic number is 65degrees. Again, I've caught them in higher, but I think the fish like to come up the bay and feed actively in the rips at 65 or less.

I, too, would like to see some stability in the temps. If they fall too fast- YIKES!!!!!

My guess is next week should be "on fire".

I think that there is a magic # For one really good reason! The lower the temps, the less bluefish there are! My # to start is around 65...And has been pretty good thus far! But the best #'s to be fishing are between 45-52. That's what my records show!

I've been catching ocean run fish for past 8 days from 26-40" inside on eels
Fish are full of sea lice and bright silver.
Water temp this morning was 61 and there were some pockets of 59
Not much bait around and fish are moving quickly

I was reviewing last year's calendar and My first sighting of schooled up stripers was on November 2 outside of peacock shoal. If that helps - the water was about 60.

Water has cooled behind Cape May. start of the weekend it was 68. By last night it was 62 to 64. It has gotten rid of most of the pesky little blues. Most of the fish are schoolies and slot fish. Haven't seen any bigger ones this week but they should be here anyday. Just don't want it to get too much cooler real fast. Mid 50's to lower 60's will be just fine.

Every morning I throw a line out off the dock to see what I can get for the tank. For the past month blues have been a real problem. Besides the blues my normal catch would be small flounder, weakies, croakers and kingfish. The small weakies vanished two weeks ago. The flounder and kings left last week.Yesterday and today had no blues. Today only one croaker.

Checked the water temp with the aquarium gauge and today it was 64. It was 64 all day long. Last week it was up and down with the strong sunlight.

I think it's time to bait up. :D :D :D

I'm with Skip, but a little higher. My favorite temp is between 50 and 55.
