I was up there on a friends boat 2 weeks ago and we caught alot of shorts. Water was very cold. We mostly used squid and killie and fish belly strips. We fished right off the beach, the party boats are generally very good at finding the fish and we were drifting along with them. We had to use 10 oz to hold bottom and we probably would have done alot better if we had used a drift anchor. The rigs that were dressed up with spinners and bucktails did not perform as well as naked hooks. I also used gulp baits without much success. There is alot of structure in that area and you should experiment and find your own spots too, if I was up there alot I would try to find areas that don't get pressured as much there sure are alot of fisherman in that area. Good Luck I hope that helps.

Head to the tip of the Hook. You will see the fleet of flounder fishermen. This weekend there are a number of tourny so they will be easy to find.

The bug light area at the tip of the hook. all along any channel. as the water warms at the bottom of the channels along the beach....and as the summer moves along in the ambrose channel.

The general word is that you have to work thru many shorts to put together a catch but there are plenty of fish to give you excitement.

Have fun learning the area.

Thanks for all the help ! We did go up and enter the tournament but missed the weigh in with a 7.6 fish we caught way up North. Will get to the hook soon and try the channel. It was nice to see a few reply to my post . Thanks.

Novice ?

I want to get back to fish the Raritan for fluke this year. I haven't been there for about 5 weeks. How long will the fluke be around? I fished around Keyport. Is AH better at this time of the year?

went out friday not a drop of rain and we nailed the fluke again at the mouth of the shrewsbury river.13 keepers with 4 over 3 lbs between the three of us.launched at atlantic highlands municipal ramp.only 6 other trailors in the parking area.weather reports kept others away i guess.killies again produced best with gulp second.
