 what is the best time or tide to night fish for stripers in the bay. I have a home on the bay and hear the bunker popping at night. I have been casting a popper of of the dock but have not caught anything other than a few bluefish. Do I need to be on my boat closer to sod banks using a different lure or bait? Any help appreciated.

First of all...great name. I've found better luck when fishing higher in the tide when bank fishing. Either early in the AM or dusk has been the best for me. You need to get your popper or whatever you're using close to the bank, I've found. Find some little nooks or indents in the marsh to throw your plug at. Has worked for me....

I don't do very well with lures on the sod banks, but shedder crab up against the bank with an outgoing tide is a whole different story. I fish the mouths of creeks at the last half of tide. Haven't been yet this year, but last year was averaging 12 fish a night from 20-30 inches. No hawgs but still fun on light tackle!!
Good luck, put your time in, you'll figure it out!

Find points and creek mouths along the sodbanks(basically anywhere the water is disturbed) and cast to it. Also, stripers don't always inhale poppers on the first swipe. Sometimes they'll stun the bait with their tails. So dont set the hook until you feel the pull. Let the popper sit for a second, twitch it, then 99% of the time they'll come back for it!! Good luck and have fun.

I had the same prblem 2 days in a row in the sod banks, the guy i was with and myself threw the book at em for hours...nothing...then someone suggested an 1/8oz jig with a 2 1/2" pink/ice finess, when I went back on the first cast a shorty was hooked, with more fish to follow.
