Has anyone heard of any stripers left in the area? There was a rumor that some 30"+ stripers were still in the Atlanitc Highlands / Sandy hook area. Just trying to confirm before I trailer all the way up from Camden County.

NJ Joe:
I found a few last Saturday, but that was before the new moon on Tuesday. Most of the reports I have heard from guys that tried for them after the new moon have been pretty bleak.:(
I just received a "live report" from my brother whom is fishing off the Sandy Hook Reef / Shrewsbury rocks right now; and he reported water temps in the low to mid 70's. They have not see any bass or bunker schools.
Unfortunately, with the climbing water temps and the passing of the new moon, I fear that the exceptional Spring bassing this region experienced this year has ended, and we have now slipped into a more typical summertime pattern.
IMO, it's time to forget about the bass (at least during the day) & it's time to start concentrating on fluke, sea bass, porgies and weaks and other warmer water species.
I'll be out tomorrow chasing flatties and knuckleheads.

my Brother Has Been Out That Way Every Weekend The Last Month And Said He Picked Away At Them Up To 20lbs. Said When The Bunker Schools Are There So Are The Bass, Also Said The Bite Is Better Later In The Day And At Night. Good Luck.

NJ Joe,
I was out of Pt Pleasant Tuesday. We snagged a bunch of bunker then headed up to Sherwsbury Rocks. We had 8 or ten runoffs. Several were blues (bit off tails). But, We landed a 35" and a 44" that weighed 39.6#.
BTW, the bite started around 10:30. We drifted. Several boats anchored and also caught.
Weather looks like we won't get out again till maybe Sat.
Catch-em-up.

Went out with Capt. Dan on the "SKINNY DRIFTER" Weds. morning. We had one 35" about 14 lbs. at the rip drifting peanut bunker. The marks were there but the water was 73. Moved down south a bit and put some sea bass and fluke to 4 lbs. in the box!! Caught lots of CHOWDER;) fixins also!!
