Taking vacation in September from the 18-24th. Will be in LBI the 20-24th. I want to catch some stripers and am thinking of heading to Cape May for a charter. When do the rips heat up? Is a rip charter something my wife could do? She has fished but not recently. Who do you recommend?

3rd week in Oct. maybe a little earlier (maybe). The rips are doable if the conditions are right. Somedays it is nice some days it is real sh*tty. Call Skip on the Stalker he will hook ya up!!

You are a little early that time of the year for stripers in the rips. October is when the bigger fish come along. Through the summer and untill October there are stripers around. Mostly schoolie size to small keeper size. Back bay, Inlets using flies, popping and swimming plugs is you best shot and early mornings and evenings.

Like "Fatboy" says above, call Stalker, or Adam Bomb, for good striper action in the rips. They will give you some honest options for what to fish for in September because it will be too early for the rips.

What's wrong with LBI? You'll be at the beach there already, and there is plenty of backwater/out front action to be had in that area. Might save you the hour drive south... ;)

Fly...I've caught 1 14" striper on LBI and I've read about Cape May...fished there 1x so far and caught a bunch of stripers.

I guess the weakies will still be hot then so maybe I will either rent a boat or put the motorized row boat in and try my luck around the bridge.

If you are on LBI and have a small boat, you can try the creeks in clam island, which is behind the dike in Barnegat Light. I used to keep my sneakbox there in the summer and go out there fishing a lot, usually some small stripers in there that time of year (12-26"'s), some flounder, and weakfish. You need a small boat to get in there, may only have a foot or so of water getting in, but there are some deep holes that hold some nice fish.

avasea...I have a kayak and also an aluminum boat that I could bring and extra tank of gas with me. Not sure about taking it from Beach Haven West all the way up there. Can't tow it.

I would take the kayak (by car) up to Barnegat Light. If you know where High Bar is, I am pretty sure you can park at the end of the road on the dike and from there you could easily haul your kayak to the back side to launch. From there it is an easy paddle to Clam Island and the surrounding flats. Here is a google satellite map link. http://www.google.com/maphp?hl=en&q=barnegat+light+new+jersey&ie=UTF8&ll=39.761286,-74.121269&spn=0.030153,0.086517&t=k&om=1
The dike is the long piece of open ground (undeveloped) that juts sort of north. Clam Island is to the west of the skinny part. There are great flats to fish to the north of Clam Island just across the channel(Double Creek). There are a lot of places there you can only get to with a small boat, and I have found the flounder fishing in early September to be good there in the past, though I haven't fished it in a few years due to the fact that I only have a 20' boat there now and it is way too big to get in to those spots. I think you would find this to be a great spot to yak fish from. Let me know if you need more info, but this should get you started.

Thanks Bob and Joe! If you have any questions...you can email us @ stalkerfishingcharters@yahoo.com

It would be a bit early for the rips...try to talk the wife into November(LOL).

But there will be some fish to be had off the beaches...the mullet will be thick then..walk the Cape May beaches at dusk and you will find bass...poppers will work fine!

Adam...I want to try and take time off in November or December to come down. Am I right in saying that the weekends are crowded so during the week may be better? Do you have open boat trips?

gone fishing, we run open boat trips quite a bit all year long...including the fall! Weekends are definitely more crowded, and they aren't as bad during the week. Just shoot me an e-mail and let me know what day(s) you'd like to go and we can set the trip up ahead of time. Thanks, and look forward to fishing with you!

avasea...I paddled to clam island this past weekend. Are you saying the flats on the other side from where everyone ties up? I launched from the last houses past High Bar Harbor and rowed up the coast line. Is there a faster route?
