Fished last night on the outgoing tide in the creeks behind Margate. My buddy was fly fishing the flats. On one of his back casts we heard a huge splash/thrashing of water, I had my spot light handy so I quickly turned it on a saw a 4 to 5 brown in color shark thrashing in the shallows 10 feet from the boat!!! After about a minute it managed to get back into deeper water but what a sight. We left that specific area after about 20 minutes and headed to another spot. On the way we noticed some serious ripples about 20 feet off our port side again we turned the spot light on and saw 2 nice dorsal fins swimming side by side, not dolphins......Again after a minute they sounded and that was it for the sightings....And to think we bought our 5 year old a tube for his birthday that he opened three days ago....Growing up on those creeks for 25 plus years I never saw anything like it.

you saw ray's ... not sharks.. there have been a ridiculous amount of rays exhibiting this type of behavior lately ... it is mating season for them, and the decline in shark population has blown up the ray numbers..i see it almost everyday out on the water as of late.

I agree I fish back bay of Margate this morning got 11 keep flounder and one 50 Lb cow nose ray.
Last weekend same area My brother-in-law had on two at the same time, one spooled him and he landed the other and retrived his jig.
Saw about 4-5 of them this morning "cruising" about 6" under the waters surface, left a hell of a wake.....

I have seen brown sharks behind Margate...as far back as Risley Channel.

Yep,
Lots of them being spotted. Kinda creepy. I was longboarding 2 days ago and all i could think about was all the sharks being caught and spotted.

I've hooked into a BIG spotted Ray and a Bat Ray in the bays of Absecon and Sea Isle City. Bat rays are everywhere!

The fact that he saw 2 dorsal fins swimming side by side means that it was a ray... ;)

I was thinking the same thing. Two fins together = ray, although there are brown sharks in the back.
