View Full Version : Bassing On Fire In Northern NJ

Fished with Al and Johnny aboard Al's "Miss Shelly" on Thursday from ~9:30 am - 3:30 PM.
Non-stop action through the incoming, flood and outgoing tides. Ended with a boat total of 50 stripers: 22 for Al, 17 for me, and 11 for Johnny. Also had a smattering of other junk including 3 dogfish, a half dozen skates and
4 sea robins.
Al was high hook all throughout day, however, the vast majority of his bass were shorts and slots. Conversely, my first three fish of the day were all over 37 inches and >20 pounds. I think we may have had 1 or 2 other keepers throughout the day with a bunch of slots and tweeners.
These fish were clean, bright, fat, healthy and hard-fighting.
Attached is a photo of my 3 biggest ones.
Can't wait to get back out during the Hi-Mar tourney this weekend.

Judging by the pics you are outside? Were you bait fishing, trolling or jigging? I have a wedding to go to this weekend, but hopefully will be out there next weekend.

Meanbean8111:
All fish were caught via clamming. Fishfinder rigs with 5-6 oz. of weight.
Reel Thing 25:
INSIDE ... not outside!
Truthfully, I would give the exact details, if I wasn't planning to fish in the Hi-Mar tourney on Sat. I can't divulge too much now, but I will give additional details to anyone whom wants them next week.
Here is another shot of Al with a ~34" bass that he released. (his largest of the day)
I will post some more photos next week, since they have incriminating evidence in the background that would give away our exact SPOT!.
Good Luck!

Here's another shot of the three "bigguns!"
That stick in the middle of the fish is a standard 36" yardstick.

nice fish gr8fulone. by the looks of it - just south and east of you is producing the same caliber and quantity of fish on 4-6 ounce jigs. just in case you decide to try other tactics.
for whatever reason, they have yet to take a bucktail on me but jigging spoons are killing them

Gr8ful One, great report...and that pic is definintely a dead giveaway for those of us who fish up north...hahaha. Hopefully, I can convince a buddy to get out if this weather ever decides to cooperate.
What's that on that striper's tail, a bite or a lesion?

Is that a Bluefish bite outa that Stripers arse?

Red & Keeper Seeker:
Yep ... that fish had a nasty bite mark (definitely not a lesion) near its tail. Looked like the work of a big doggie or a bluefish.
Another friend nailed 50 bass in 3 hours on Friday afternoon on artificaials within 2 miles of the shoal; the fish are definitely out there. The Fall run is under way big time!!!
I am gonna try to get after them again on Fri. after this weather settles down.
