Fished out of Atlantic Highlands with my bro, John (a.k.a. "Procastinator"), aboard his "Rod Bender II" on Saturday. All I can say is that we put an absolute beating on some really nice fish down the beach.

Had a fantastic day with the two of us boating 33 keepers from 17.5-21". The fishing was so hot that we only kept ones over 19." Even with such a high bar, we still manged to put 9 in the box, with at least 20 fish released from 18-19". They were all fat, fiesty fish that were absolutely hammering our baits. A few birds, dogs, a single short sea bass, and some 6-8 lbs. blues rounded out the catch, but it was mostly keeper fluke. For the first time this year, we actually had a higher ratio of keepers to shorts! :D

We also had a couple of "long arm releases" at boatside on a few other keepers ... including the biggest of the day (I am guessing ~24 inches) which I dropped, because John wouldn't let me use the net. After it escaped, the darn thing just sat suspended just under the surface for about 3 seconds like it was laughing at us before it sounded for the bottom. All I want to know is why bring a net, if you are going to leave it in the rod holder and make me lift the fish all day? ;)

Fished with squid/spearing, fresh sea robin strips and fresh bluefish strips, and the fish didn't seem to prefer any one bait over the others. All of our fish came from depths of 30 - 50 feet, but I can't divulge the exact location, since it was my brother that found this body of fish. However, I can tell you that it was an area of the beach that lies between a bridge and some very rough bottom that has a lot of "Rocks." ;)

When we got back to the Atlantic Highlands municipal ramp, some clown in a brand spankin' new 17-18 footer almost crashed right into the side of the Rod Bender as John was loading her onto the trailer. Luckily,
John saw him coming, and he was able to reach out and push him off before being T-boned. The actions of the clowns and clueless that use that ramp never cease to amaze me.:(

Procastinator went back out on Sunday with a saltwater fishing first timer and the newbie's stripper girlfriend. Together, the three boxed 3 limits before 2:00 PM. Procastinator accounted for 22 of the 24 keepers; however, the "eye candy" wasn't playing, since she had a busted wing. (I'lll bet it was tough having to watch her sun bathing all day. )

We had a similar day down the beach on Sunday. Fished 7-430 had 14 keepers and lost a good one at the boat due to a sleeping net man. biggest was 25 1/2 and 2 were 23. All baits worked when we had a drift.
That ramp is a joke with all the idiots.
