Thanks Brian! :) Oh god that Eel swims great! I was looking on Tatoo's website and they don't seem to have that Blurple color pattern for the Eel lure. If I emailed him about it, would he paint it the way I wanted it?

I can definitely see why you guys don't want to risk getting these babies chomped on by Blues :) They are literally pieces of art!

I am interested in trying my hand a some plugs. Can anyone here reccommend a resource for equipment and supplies i.e. mini lathe, blanks, google eyes, wire, etc...

Are there any clinincs or how-to sessions going on?

Thanks,

Thanks guys, I'm in the Lansdale area northwest of Philly.
I'm really interested in trying to build some of my own plugs, but have lots of questions.

My first would be how do you wire them?, Are you slicing them in half channeling the wire and gluing them bac together or are you able to drill out the wire path?

I did a bit of woodturning back in highschool and don't think I'd have a problem with that part of it. Been looking at a mini lathe under $130 on the internet.

I think that if I start gathering supplies and prep now I'll have something to do through the winter months.

My email address is eelhugger@yahoo.com .

Thanks,
Rob

Rob:

I think the best thing you can do - or at least what I've been doing - is to purchase some plug kits to help you get started. Having the kits shows you what you need to do to assemble and paint your very own plugs. Also, the plugs are drilled out for the wire path. Send me an email and I'll fill you in on some other details: dylan413@comcast.net

I am retired and I have been building plugs for a few years now. I have a very complete shop set up in my garage.
I live in Lakewood NJ. If you were willing to drive over I can give you a quick course in what it takes to get started.
I will tell you that it can get very expensive if you do it right so make sure it's really what you want to do.

NS - I have two questions for you. 1) How many houses do you own? You must have several to house all those plugs. 2) How do you choose which plugs to take with you each night? You may need to trade in the jeep for one of those hugh 4x4 campers so you can take a small sampling of your plugs to the beach.

Been thinking about starting to undertaking that craft, have a lathe, drill press and already used to creating things with flys. Would feel alot better catching fish on my own creations.:)

Yeah Charlie thats a tuff call for sure there,, I have started a collection of them and that one was on my list and I may never be able to be replace it.
I also have a white one.Maybe I will If I cannot find some New Hahn Snakes. I dream of catching a decent fish on some of these throw-back
plugs.. So that being said it might make a apprearance in my bag when no blues are around later this year...;)
