Trying to find out where to fish for herring. I launch by the CBB And would like to try live bait since I went through $40 in bloodworms on Tues. without a STRIPER! I don't know what kind of channel or area to jig for them. Appreciate the help. Wouldn't mind some advise on the best set-up for them either.

Large try some clams next time if your herring thing fails ;) they work and the perch have a heck of a time stealing them smile.gif

A sabiki is very effective.

Since we can't talk about fishing spots you may want to read this article on scenic rivers to spend the day on during the spring;
http://www.ccmua.org/herring.html ;)

Or you could spend time descrambling these letters telling you where the herring are so that people don't accuse you of being lazy;

PS: Do not jig for them.

"The foul hooking of alewife and blueback herring will be banned. Snagging herring as a method of collecting fish causes a high degree of collateral mortality that often includes striped bass and other game fishes. "

not looking for specific spots to find herring, just certian types of areas to try ex. channels, flats, shallows, points, coves. I certainly don't want to start another stupid thread on the "divulging of SPOTS". Sabiki rigs is what I had in mind. I guess I'll just have to spend my valuable time with the ole' trial and error on bait fishing instead of striper fishing. Daze, thanks for the word puzzle, but thats a little far for me to travel for some herring. Very witty though!

Try the mouths of creeks and rivers or up against bulkheads. Rocky coves work well too.
