In the earlier part of fall are you better off chunkin up in the bay or drifting the ripps. Any thoughts/recommendations?

I agree with phisi4fun. Some Falls the rips seem to hold fish 1st. Other years it seems the fish by-pass the rips and make a B-line for the bay. It's a rough call. I used to spend my first few trips in the rips- assuming that these fish stop over there on their way up the bay. The last two years- it seems to me that the rips took a while to get going in the Fall. Some rips sharpies will hopefully add more to this.

I remember a few years back there was a huge bite with 20plus pounders in Overfalls and then two days later it was on at the lower end of the bay. Maybe some schools cut the corner and head up the bay through the point area and maybe some fish make a larger turn and head up the bay through the Deleware side.

Either way- keep an eye on the Barn and you'll know which area will be producing with consistency. Good luck!

Just keep an eye out for "Partnership's" reports. He's the striper guru.

thats a good point partnership, i was wondering that same thing myself...maybe someone with a little more knowledge on the subject could chime in? i bet the migratory pattern would allude to alot more caught fish.

It's more relaxing and fun to anchor up the bay and fish for bass with bunker chunks. The rips are crowded and one must keep moving and drifting over the rips which is alot of work.

most of the fish that enter the bay are coming from five fathom back.they show up there first and make a weasterly trip to the bay.most of the bass in the rips are hold over bass at first.and keep in mind the number of people in the rips also will hold the bass down.as the season rolls on some of the big girls move into the rips around late nov. by then most of the weekend fishermen are gone and i think the number of boat in the rips really makes a differants.if you are looking for BIG bass go into the d-bay starting late oct. fish bunker, and you will get what you want:D if you want numbers of bass fish the rips "only weekdays" and you will get numbers.good luck ,matt
