A few friends and I will be heading to Cape May this fall in hopes of doing some striper fishing. Can anyone give us some advise on rod/reel setups and what kind of bait and/or lures to begin with. We are freshwater fisherman and are totally new to the saltwater scene. Also, can someone recomend public ramps in the cape may area. Thanks!!!!

Honestly spend one day on one of the charters advertised on here and it will help you out quite a bit in terms of learning about stripers.......

Other than that keep reading on here and everywhere else, go fish, take your lumps, and you will catch on.

Cape May has a new public ramp. Just on the other side of the parkway bridge.

Rod: MH or H baitcaster. I like the Lamiglas tri-flex or Inshore Classic 15-30# of any rod would suffice

Reel: Penn 965 or 975. Or if money is an issue I like the GT310. Shimano 400. Basically a baitcaster.

Fall stripers: bunker chunk fresh bunker in the Delaware Bay on a fishfinder rig with a 8/0 to 10/0 Gami Octopus or Octopus circle.

Spring stripers: same as above with fresh clam

Fish in the Delaware Bay at the 20ft or 60ft slough, Tusseys slough or near some nice structure in the lower bay.

Hope that will get ya started!!!:D
