I don't often do the chum thing for bass, but have had relative success in the past. It's always one or the other though... Fishing clams with a clam chum. Chunking bunker with bunker chum... Anyone ever combine the two (clamming a few rods / chunking a few rods with a mixed chum)? Any thoughts on pro's or con's?

Good Question.. That is actually my game plan...

2 3500's Bait runners chunkin bunker
2 Conventionals with clam
2 Spinners holding A47's

Clam in the chum basket
Bunker chunks overboard

Did it last Saturday on Procastinator's boat in Sandy Hook Bay; we ended up catching 32 stripers up to 13 pounds fishing for only a few hours during a single tide.

We used fresh clams for bait, and we ground p-nut bunkers overboard using a chum grinder to make our slick. Normally, we would have used clams for bait and clams for chum, but we only had a limited amount of clams since the clammers had not been working in the foul weather.

With an almost unlimited supply of p-nuts in the marina and a limited supply of clams, the decision to use bunker for our chum was a "no brainer."

By using the clams for bait, we were able to concentrate more heavily on the bass while avoiding getting too many strikes and chew-offs from bluefish that I am sure were coming around to check out the bunker oil stink.
