Caught 27 between my Dad and me,off of L.B.I. in 45 feet using storm shad's. Eventually finding good bird action with ton's of bait and fishies. Fish were 18-39'' topping out at 20 Lbs. Big one fought it for 20 minutes with a reel that kept reversing on me almost breaking my finger, must be a bad part to lock it in gear !! Left them biting !! If anyone still has their boat in the water , still some action to be had if you dont mind the cold !! Good luck to all !! Pics to follow!!

Great job stripedfever, good to see that not everyone is scared of a little cold weather. Do you ever troll the shads or just slow retrieve? Keep up the good work

JPHooks,We started out trolling eel umbrella rig's and shads but the only thing that would hit were shorts on the eels !! We found another school of fish and decided to use shads since the birds were coming up with small shad or herring and baby bunker , 5-6'' long. Seen big fish on surface and would cast out and let sink and give it a twitch or two and bamm !! Good luck to all !! Thanks for the welcome striper101, figured it was time to stop lurking since I live on this website when not fishing !! I have to get a life ???

Great report Stripedfever, we'll be out there at least Saturday off of southern LBI and will be looking for those pods of fish with you. If we find anything we'll call you on Ch9. Bohica Out!

Bohica,We were out yesterday and froze our but's off but did find big pod's of fish!!Actually had better action later on in the day till dark. Lotta short's but found a few pod's of bigger off in the 45 ft. range. Saw a few nice fish caught next to us slowing the fast drift with a sea anchor!! Got very snotty later but the fish didn't mind.Fish were eating baby bunker 4-5 '' so the storm shad's and bigger hopkin's jigged on bottom did it for me !! Fish went 20 - 32'', kept a few fat slot's for dinner (poor man's lobster)!! These little guy's will be nice fish in a few year's, all look pretty healthy !! It's ashame this cold spell is gonna hit us, cause theres still fishies to be caught, but it's a bear when that spray hit's you this time of year !! Good luck to all and be safe out there !!

I need an enclosure! I'll have the snowsuit on tomorrow I think! Thanks for the tips from yesterday, the 3-5 oz. crippled herrings are doing the trick as well but I'm going to try the deeper water if the ocean allows it. Call me on Ch9 after 7am if you're able to and we'll try to coordinate our attack!
