View Full Version : Miss Chris Stories . . .
One of my favorite Miss Chris stories . . . Took place a couple of years ago on one particular striper trip when some guy won the progressive pool in the amount of around two thousand dollars. Legend has it when the guy tipped Chris the mate only ten dollars, Chris handed it right back to him and said in the way only Chris can say it, ?Keep it Bro, You need it more than I do!?

Knowing Chris very well that is vintage Chris. He comes up with some good ones. He is one of the best party boat mates in SJ. All mates work hard and deserve to be compensated well for the work they do. I would have probably given Chris $200 had I won. What do you guys think is fair?
Chris is a pretty good mate. Others that I have seen that were good were Gina on the Carolyn Ann & Jimmy on the Big Mowhawk.
$200 at least...

Is Gina the girl who dove off of the head boat at low tide in Shark River and broke her neck? Her father is "Freddy" from the "Freddy C" in Lenardo. Nice kid.

I had won an $800 pool on Miss Chris and gave Chris $180. I think that is very fair. What the heck...it's "found" money. Spread the joy.

Chris is a very good mate - not to mention probably one of the best fillet men in Cape May. Guy should have at least slipped him a $20. :D

Been on the Miss Chris Once. My boat wasn't ready yet so my brother, my buddy mark and I went on a night drum trip in early May one year. It was blowing a gail that day, a good 30 kts. I asked the Capt. earlier if he would go. He said as long as enough people showed, he'd sail. We watched people show up, it was apparent they weren't seasoned fishermen, some even bought their girlfriends w/ them. I told them it's likely to be nasty out there, most of them were like we don't care, we're just here to party :D Hope they had good stomachs! Well, it sure was nasty and we went all the way over to the darkside, felt like we were in a bathtub, that boat was waddleing all over the place! The only ones outside were us 3 and the mate. Upon arrival the brave came out to do some fishing, they didn't last long, w/in an hr. everyone but us 3 and the mate were back in the cabin. Everytime I went into the cabin to get a beer it looked like a morgue in there and smelled like a dump, green people puking all over the place. Us 3 and the mate ended up filling up a 50 gallon drum w/ dogfish and were cutting up the bellies into strips for the seasons fluke bait. No Drum to be had that night. After we ran out of beer, using advice from the mate, we just got more beer from someone elses cooler, they were too sick to care :D Even the mate put down some beers w/ us while catching and hacking up dogfish. I remeber we cut a big one open that had a bunch of baby doggies in it, they stunk real bad! We had a good time!

I've only been on the Miss Chris once and it wasn't pretty. Decided to stop at the diner a block away and have cream chipped beef for breakfast. I wasn't worried because: " I don't get sea sick." Nasty day, had to stick my feet under the edge of the boat side where the water drains to keep from falling out. The entire trip was spent going from a foot from the water to twenty feet from the water and back again. Once one guy started puking it went right down the line, me included. Not many stripers caught that day. Plenty of sharks stealing our eels. I got skunked. Never again. I'll pay the extra money and stick with Skip and Adam for future striper trips!

Must have been back in 1991 or so, me and a buddy went down to take a night bluefish trip on a Friday or Saturday. Well, there was a real good looking chick, all pressed out in nice white slacks and white tennis shoes. :D Night blues. :D
The flags were standing straight out, breeze from the south, with the tide flowing out the inlet. I'm looking at "white slacks" thinking, "What the heck is she thinking?" hehehe We hit the inlet and there was at least 8 foot waves in there, it blew all night. "White slacks" was observed sitting on the deck outside the cabin door, amongst pieces of cut bunker, puking on her nice white slacks and tennis shoes. :) The gang traveling with her didn't fare much better, as they all took posession of five gallon buckets and spent the night in the cabin filling them up, as CaptG describes above. Couldn't walk in the cabin it stunk so bad. Oh yea, the fishing was slow, but the entertainment was top notch.

Gotta love party boatin :D This is why I only like to patronize the party boats in the winter time for tog & seabass! Usually only get a serious fishing crowd and the Capts. work xtra hard to put the crew on the meat!

2 grand thats luck money! If you don't spread lucky money around you're luck will turn for the worse. He probably has not caught a fish since the cheapskate!
Party boats are more fun when it's rough. I've been on quite a few where I'm one of only a handful that's not either passed out in the cabin or contributing to a chum slick.

I fished w/ Chris not long after the $2000 fish it was more in the 1500 range but regardless, the guy who won was also on board. The loser had a nice bass at the side of the boat and Chris told him "net your own fish @@###**!". I was willing to split the progressive this year w/ an old timer and he refused. Total weight diff was .01 on Bob's scale at dock. Chris politely informed the man and his friends "stop crying and get off the dock you just lost!".
P.S.
Don't ever play cards w/ him he'll be livin' in your house and driving your car home!!
