I fished on the Gambler out of Pt. Pleasant on Friday in fierce winds that shifted from a howling SW to a screaming W to a lessening NW by afternoon.
Departing Manasquan Inlet, we fished south to about Seaside under constant and epic birdplays each containing thousands of gulls, terns and gannetts.
Drifting to the E we caught fished throughout the trip, slowing only when we got out too far & when the tide changed.
The bass rolled on top at times, chasing both sea herring and rainfish - something we learned from the differing patterns of the big & little birds. We did not catch any bluefish.
I ended up with at least 13 bass from 12" to 33" all on 5 oz. Crocodiles reeled from the bottom to the top at a good clip. Diamond jigs did produce - but not as well as the almighty Crocodile.
I also enjoyed significant wind burn on my face.
I really enjoyed the crew. I never had to ask for a net and the guys always had a positive and appreciative outlook.
I'd go back in a heartbeat. If you live in Ocean or Monmouth Counties, this boat is a great late season opportunity to catch a few Christmas bass.
Buon Natale,
