Chinese Fire Drill on the Big Pond!

Couldn't pass up a great foreacast even though I didn't have a partner for the day. I set up near the shoe and started the day with two nice shorts that were realeased unharmed. When the tide started to run out I had a screaming runoff and hooked into what felt like a nice keeper. It is really tough fighting a fish and trying to clear rods at the same time. By the time the fish hit the net it was tangled with three other rods!!!!! Five minutes of dealing with the tangles and I was back in action. About thirty minutes later I had a slower steady run off and when the circle hook sunk into the fish it stripped nearly one hundred yards of line on the drag! At least it was further out from the boat and it gave me more time to clear the rods from one side of the boat. The fight was great and the fish was a 40" beauty. I ended the day with seven fish total and the run back to the river was one of the best of the season!
Let's hope we get another one like today soon!

Great job Ray. It never fails...take a couple of people out and no action. Fish by yourself and there's not enough hands. Glad you had a great time.

Have done a few solo trips chunkin(today as crew bailed) and you will get use to doing it all. I fish 4 rods ,2 on outrodders and 2 straight back. I jockey the rods accordingly as i have 5 rodholders in my leaning post.

I also fish shorter leaders and havent netted a fish while solo this year-just lip em and grab in the gils and hoist over.

I am off Thursday and Friday but the weather does not look great for the end of the week as of now.
Of course, it could change 6 times between now and Friday.
If I am available to fish maybe week can do another trip together.
