I am thinking this year I am going to head down and try and get in on the Big Bass bite down there. I am looking for charter reccomendations. I think one of the Cape May Captains fishes with a guy down there every year. One thing I dont wanna do is troll. I would like to jig all the Bass. Thanks for any reccomendations :)

Rock Solid is another boat to check out. Last year the fish stopped short of Carolina. The better bite was in Va.

Late Dec till March. We fished Carolina 3 years ago on 3/5 and slayed em, reports went downhill soon after. I would shoot for mid Jan till mid Feb. last year 2nd week of Jan was great in Va.

Here's another guide. I've fished with him before. Boat is kinda marginal, but he puts you on the fish.

Where is Rock solid based out of?Right next to DOA. Donnie is a great captain and friend, but Arron on the Rock solid will do as well! Fishing down there in the winter is sick! Good luck! I 'll be down there on Jan 30-31st and Feb 17-18th!

Capt Rick Caton custom sound charters the boat is the free agent, fished with him a couple years ago the man is hard core and light tackle, but I think he moved up from OI to fish out of rudee and pretty sure he be there for a while longer cause thats where the fish still are..
Northern Outer Banks Fishing Report
The weather has been like early spring with warm and cold days, most people have been fishing on the warmer days. The big stripers have been scattered with the majority still in Virginia, they will probably move further south when the water temperature gets colder in Virginia. Some big and small stripers have been caught from the catwalk and the beaches around Oregon Inlet. You might want to use live eels or lures if the dog sharks are plentiful. The grass hasn't been bad but if it is try around low tide or move to an area where it's not washing up. Speckled trout are still being caught, some good areas to try in Kitty Hawk would be at the 2.5 milepost, Black Pelican and John's Drive In. Please throw your striper carcasses in a trash can or dumpster, no need to show it off.

Fished with both Beachbum charters and Doa charters. Either would be an excellent choice. Both have websites.

I fished down there for Stripers a year or two ago with a boat called the Poacher. Great captain, knew right where the big boys were and had us in the fish all day. January striper fishing in the OBX can be a lot of fun. Many times you'll be fishing right beyond the breakers back in towards the shore and you'll actually see those monsters chasing baitfish up to the shore. Great fun.

Check out Capt. Ray Pugh- www.fishingouterbanks.com (http://www.fishingouterbanks.com)
He goes the extra mile. He was on In-Fisherman TV a few weeks ago
catching Stripers. He's out of Oregon Inlet.
