I have not had much luck this season out front (Avalon/Sea Isle) or in the back/inlet. Should I venture down to the rips with eels? I am will have a friend on board who will be looking to catch his first striper. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated....

Or, should I head out to the Ridge and troll up those tuna and wahoo that Sea Hawk was catching recently????

it sounds like you need head either to the rips with spot or bucktails, or head to the delaware bay with "fresh" bunker, body chunks or heads. a friend of mine has been fishing every day down there and has been tearing them up. if you chunk, big hooks 9 or 10 with 5 foot leader. we will be out sunday, maybe off the delaware side.
good luck, will be on 68

If you are gonna make the run to the rips make sure to have that live well full of spot, small croakers, etc etc. 3 dollars a spot will be worth it if your gonna make that 15+ mile run down the beach. Also have at least one spinner with bucktail or crippled herring tied and ready to cast on demand. Might just come across some birds on the way down. Good luck! We will be up the bay on Sunday.

Thanks Guys... appreciate the tips. Will try the eels, bunker (fresh) and bucktails tomorrow morning in 'da rips'.

Hope to post a "limited out" report!

Anyone know who has Spot in the Tuckerton area? Scott's is posting that they are done for the season.

When you refer to fresh bunker you are referrring to dead bunker that has recently been caught and hasn't been frozen yet. This will most likely not be productive drifting through the rips. If want to "limit out" GO GET LIVE SPOT!!!! If you know the bucktail "technique" they will also be deadly. Don't waste time drifting chunk baits through the rips.

Fish the Bay, fresh bunker if you can get them and chunk.
Had two great days last week, 25 fish with 7 keepers all in the 18 to 22 pound range and hope for more this coming Sun. and Mon. As everyone has said if you fish the rips spot and jig.

Catch em up:D :D :D

Hattrick - I am fishing the back bay (sea isle) and chunking clam. I have not had the luck that you have had. I am using a #7 hook on a fish finder rig w/ 2 1/2' leader 2-4 oz's. What depth/structure/sod bank do you anchor up near? Is my rig right? How often are you dumping chunk in? and what bait are you leaving on the hook (bunker head? bunker chunk? or clam? Any help would be great - I am starting to think my set up/ technique and location are all off. Thanks
