This is the last report for the year, more like a summary of what you missed (or didn?t). I?ll be back with more sometime
in the Spring.

The bass fishing seemed to be slowly ebbing away until Thanksgiving , when the herring showed up in strength,
accompanied by the stripers. Fishing was great for maybe a week to ten days, and then started getting erratic. Herring
got difficult to find, and even when they were found, the boats still had to work to find the bass.

The blackfishing has been pretty steady, and seems to be continuing so, but there are not many boats out anymore.

The MARLIN VI & SEA OTTER are still sailing on reduced weekend schedules, and the CAPT MARK is still taking
charters, but he will probably start accepting reservations for single anglers, and will most likely continue to do so over
the weekend. Other than him, I don?t know that any other charter boat will be available for a trip until sometime in
March.

The following is the final standings in the Locals Surf contest;
WADER DIVISION
1st place - Matty Vega - 41.36 LB
2nd place - Matty Vega - 40.28 LB
3rd place - Gary Stephens - 29.86 LB

LADY?S DIVISION
1st place - Mary Ellen Kane - 16 LB
2nd place - Loretta Sear - 9.8 LB

WETSUIT DIVISION
1st place - John Bruno - 33.66 LB

YOUTH?S DIVISION
1st place - Tyler Weiss - 17.68 LB
2nd - place - Xen Angelidis - 13.84 LB
3rd place - Xen Angelidis - 12.60 LB

KID?S DIVISION
1st place - Amanda Schaudel - 15.05 LB
2nd - place - Dylan Lackner - 11.24 LB
3rd place - Hank Lackner - 10.76 LB

Most of the fish caught entered in the contest were caught early in the contest, from the end of September until early
October. The exceptions were in the youngsters divisions, where bluefish are just as eligible as bass.

Shortly before the contest ended, Gaviola?s was broken into and robbed. A couple of days after the contest ended, some
jerk sent out an e-mail, supposedly from Joe, stating that the tournament funds were in the money that was stolen, and
consequently, there would be no prizes, and the dinner was canceled. It seemed hard to believe, because even if it was so,
I assumed that Joe would have replaced the cash himself. Anyway, a couple of hours later, the e-mail was exposed as a
hoax.

I?m looking for a cover shot for next years MONTAUK SPORTFISHING magazine, and there is real $$$ involved,
$200 to be exact. So if you think you have what I need, drop me a copy. I?m not looking for the regular ?some guy
holding a fish? type of shot, and I really can?t explain what I want, as long as it is taken in Montauk and has something
special about it.
