Im moving to mount laurel and I used a map to follow the mullica river all the way up to that area. Just wondering if the stripers move that far up? If not how far do they go? Any good fishing up that way?

Hopefully mullica Bob is watching he has some tips for you check out the freshwater forum. There is a lot of good spring fishing.

I think you hit dams at both Batsto and Pleasant Mills. I don't think they can get any higher than that. Plus the residents of Sweetwater are complaining that the state is no longer dredging the river above the casino and it is filling in quick. Sometimes a canoe doesn't make it.

I've been neglecting my computer lately, but the answer is. I don't know how far up the stripers will go, but I know how far up I have caught them. First there is no dam on the Mullica, there is one on the Batsto, so they are able to go as far as they want on the M. For those of you who know the Mullica and fish it in the spring can really appreciate this fishery, it can get down right awesome. I live (by water) approx. 1 mile up river from the Forks Landing Marina and have caught stripers up to 14lbs beyond my house in the spring. Depending how the Herring and Striper spawning coincide with one another the river will get Stripers further up or further down river, but regardless of Herring there is always some spring Stripers up river. I always share as much info with people as possible, but springtime Mullica hot spots can be sensitive to over- fishing and crowds, the best I can do is to tell you, fish from Lower Bank bridge up to about Forks Landing Marina. When you do find them in the huge pods splashing around in 2 feet of water don't let the fly's get in your open mouth's ;) .

The Forks Landing Marina used to have a restaurant with it, a nice one to, but has since closed down the restaurant. He keeps the boat slips open and he might still rent canoes but I'm not sure about them. The Forks is in Sweetwater as is were I live but for 911 purposes we use Hammonton's zip, so if you look for the Fork's in Hammonton you'll be off by 6 miles or so.

By the way Luna-tik you can expect spring fishing to get started around the beginning of April weather being the determining factor, the Green Bank bridge is on 563 the Lower Bank bridge is on 652. Either bridge is in the heart of spring striper fishing on the Mullica. Good luck with your move.

No the Sweetwater Casino is still open, it just seems to change owners every few years. The restaurant at Forks closed about two years ago and the entire property has been for sale since then. I know the owner and he said "if he sells it good if not so what" but the spot is absolutely beautiful, it's right were the Batsto and Mullica rivers come together. I think he's looking for around 6 million for it. It is about the last area you can get a boat to without knowing the river EXTREMELY well, my 19' is a fairly shallow boat and I won't come up to my house in it without having the tide in my favor.

MB, I have heard of fish caught west of Crowley's Landing but never fished that far myself.
The past few years the Herring run has not been that good and most of the fish I get are from Greenbank east all the way uo to the Parkway.
Rarely we fish bait. Mostly trolling rattletraps and large white grubs with an occasional bomber or rebel.

Bgsdad, I think I've seen you out there before because I only recall seeing one fellow who runs the grub, mostly in the channel by a certain beach shall we say. I don't really run much bait either I like to run the Herring a little later in the season, but I do catch from above Crowley's Very regular using the same tricks up there as further down river. The Parkway bridge gets really good when the fish start to drop back down the river, that's when the Herring really take off for me.

MB - You are a wealth of information. I enjoy your posts. I never fished the Mullica River, but grew up canoeing its tributaries (wading and batsto) and hunting the Pine Barrens which feed into it. I view the Mullica as the great gift of the pines. It is with true pleasure I read how well this watershed is doing. I recently got into kayak fishing and have been hitting points south of you, but do not be surprised to see me out on the Mullica this spring. Thanks you again for your posts.

dogcatcher thank you for the kind words, I always appreciate feed back and hope what I'm saying is helping somebody. I pride myself on being as knowledgable as possible about what I fish for, where I'm doing it, with what, etc. Being privelaged enough to live on the river gives me a first hand view of what's going on at the moment as well as the differences from year to year. Just like most everything in life experience goes a long way and I'm starting to get a more satisfying feeling with what I have learned about the river as the years go by. I could tell you every single fishing hole that I would stop at from Constable bridge to the mouth of the Mullica and all the info to go along with each hole, turn by turn. Some guy's in white jacket's would be knockin shortly after that, saying "it might be time for a little break Mullica Bob". smile.gif

Luna-Tik: Welcome to Mount Laurel. Let me know if you're interested in doing some fishing. I live in Mount Laurel, and slip a boat in Holiday Harbour Marina (mainland side of Barnegat bay, almost directly across from Barnegat Light).

One other thing, if you're not from this area, and don't have alot of local knowledge about the Mount Laurel area, feel free to ask away.

Mt. Laurel, huh Go Gordon..........Anyone fish Brichfield retention ponds lately? Used to pull lots of 3-5lb. bass outta there. There's lots of pickeral streams around too. Birchfield got destroyed by geese crap last I went to my home town.
Someday, I will fish the Mullica river as well. But not yet. Learning some other fisheries. Focus and concentration on one thing at a time help me.
O'Yeah!

Hey Mullica Bob, I second the thanks for all your info. I "spoke" with you here a few months ago about trolling for stripers. Gave it a try just around the time the fished stopped biting in the river and the action moved to the bars outside the inlet. I plan on giving the river a good shot this spring.
A friend recently told me that he catches perch and trims the dorsal fin off with sissors and catches striper inthe river with them. I plan on trolling and casting plugs mainly. Thanks again for all your help here!

I appreciate the response O'Yeah, spring stripers in the river are a great way to catch some early season fish without the hassels of the ocean or inlets. The river is always friendly to fish on even in the worst of conditions.

THE sweetwater resturant was owned by a man named bob. he wanted to expand 2 yrs ago because he had to turn away people daily due to linited space.
the pine barren commision would not allow him to.
so yes he sold it. i think he owned it for 12 years.his wife used to own marys flowers in somerdale. i dont know if they still own it

I think you have your restraunt's mixed up. The owner of Fork's Landing is (and still owns) named Bob and it is not Sweetwater that wanted to expand it was the Fork's, pinelands put the cabosh on that. If you talked to him personaly he may have said "he turned people away daily" but that was a little exaggerated. Little Rickey you should try to navigate the Mullica after a winter. Whatever markers are left that the jet-ski's have spaired and ice did not take, leaves you with a couple of sticks for the whole river, a tricky ride if your new to the river.
