I am making a run out to the store, wanted to know what a good setup is for chunking? My old setup is getting retired and am looking to spend 150-175. I was thinking teh Garcia 6600 and maybe an ugly stik med action, what are your opinions? Any suggestions?

Okuma bait runners and Ugly Stick's have never failed me & a lot better price then the Shimano's IMO.

The Edge,
I like your idea for a good set up. I like the Abu 6600 a lot. I use the 7000 with 65 lb Power Pro. It may sound like overkill but I use it for a "head" rod setup only. The 6600 spooled with 50 lb Power Pro would be a nice set up. My fishing partner uses that exact set up and handles all size stripers! A nice Ugly Stick to go with that reel is the 7' Med.Heavy action casting model # CAL 1101. My gang uses a lot of these versatile rods for chunking. They sell for around $30-$40. Good luck.

spinning reel--go with a bait runner series
conventional-- calcutta's, abu's, newell's- they all work.

rods - 7 ft length(go with fiberglass/glass). soemthing rated for 20-40lb line.
the tigers series from ugly stik are nice.

Abu's rule in the value vs. cost dept.

Shimano Cal TE cast like a dream...just pricey..

Thanks guys, I ended up going with the Ugly Stik and the 6500 Abu. I basically have the same setup for flounder but with a 5.5 ft rod, so I grabbed the 7 med/hvy action. I'll be breaking her in in a few weeks. Thanks for the input.
