I love it when a plan comes together. Decided to head North a little from the inlet at daybreak. Did not see too much out there of interest so we headed to the Dark Side for some rippin' action.

1st drift produced 2 slot size throwbacks on bucks. It took a while to find some keepers but as the tide settled in- it sure turned on. We managed 23 fish up to 29" with three keepers. Most fish were caught on white bucktails and chartruse flapper tails. A few were caught on live spot or small live croakers.

I did manage a sweet 18" flattie on a buck- that was returned. All in all a heck of a bonus day for December. Flat seas, calm breeze, lots of fish, and good company. Water was clear and 47-50 degrees throughout the day.

Gonna do the tog thing tomorrow.

Pulling our boat from chestnut neck in the a.m. Heading out from the canal about 10:00 a.m. any suggestions as to where to start? Thought we'd look for some clean water outside the rips and see how it goes. Anything would help.....Thanks....Jack

Tom, Good to see you out there! We managed to capture 3 keepers also with about 18 throwbacks, many in the nice sized slot fish range. I sure hope that they bring the slot back!!!!! We caught our fish on clam, eels, and white bucktails with a chartruse worm. Also mr deadly dick caught a few- my favorite rips jig! I'm leaving the house now to do it all over again. Good luck toggin!! Dennis the Margaritaville

Clean water was the trick. Incoming tide will help. Look for the fleet on the dark side. Good luck!

Hey Steve-
I was using a 1oz white buck and my other rod had a chartruse 1.5ounce.
I was using those larger flapper tails in white and chartruse.

What boat were you on?
