Will be around $50. I can't remember exactly but when I worked there in the summer it was like $50 a head and $40 for twelve and under. O yeah don't forget to tip. Whether you get Jimmy or Chris, both are great guys who work hard for their money.

Was out with them a little over a week ago, and, I think it was $55 plus $2 for each pool [daily & progressive]. Also, I'll second the comment on the mates. Chris & Jim are two of the best I've ever been out with and I've been on a lot of headboats.

Just called and its $45 not including bait unless they use clams. Sounds like they begin in the RIPS and use eels. Thats af air price.

its $45 for the trip and at least another $40 for Chris Minimium. Just kidding, great boat and crew, you won't be disappointed. If Jim is working that day its $50 for him.

I went out with him a couple weeks ago only because he was the only 8 hour boat running striper at the time. He reminded me why I haven't gone out on the chris in years. He grabbed me on the way in...told me how much nobody wants to wait for fish to come to him and they want him to move to find fish.
He boarded with a newspaper and his dog, I didn't see or hear ( except for his music ) from him all day!
Lousy day fishing....unboarding the boat he butted in front of the passengers to get his dog off and he got off while everyone was unboarding with equipment etc. Not a word.
The mates always work for it..never met one I didn't like. As for the boat, i'll be on the Seastar tomorrow. Wouldn't go out on the chris if it were the last damn boat in town!

Don't waste your money on that outfit. Go with Capt Paul Thompson on the Porky IV. He will put you on the fish and not a boat ride. The Miss Chris Stinks. He ripped me and a friend off years ago along with the rest of the crew and I have not forgiven him for such a debocale!!!!!!!!!

I guess i am the only one to stick up for the Miss Chris here. You should be happy the capt warned you beforehand. He did you a favor by telling you the bite was off. I would rather have known that information and then have to make the decision to go or not rather than go on the boat with high hopes and get skunked. And contrary to what has been said the Miss Chris fleet frequently outfishes the other Cape May party boats. After working for Fred for two years, I saw that yeah the Miss Chris might get skunked but that usually means the other party boats did also.

I used to partyboat fish quite a bit and have good things to say about both the Miss Chris and the Porgy IV, and never experienced any kind of debacle whatsoever. I have not had the chance to fish the Porky yet so I cannot comment.

I obviously have no idea what kind of bad experiences any of you have had, I can only speak for mine. I will stipulate that as personalities go, Chris [capt] may not be the most outwardly pleasant person or captain that I've ever met. And I've been on the boat with him on more than one occassion when the fishing wasn't that great. But, when this has been the case, he & the mates have all been upfront about the prospects and that kind of honesty goes a long way with me. And when we've been in those kind of conditions, he has NEVER, when I've been on the boat, failed to make a great effort to move around and find fish.
A few years back, my dad and I were on a spring striper trip with him on the Lady Chris [Butch had the Miss Chris on the Mackerel run] and it was one of those kind of days. Couldn't have caught a cold if we tried. By three PM, with only three keepers on the boat for approximately twenty fishermen, at what would normally be quitting time, we still had lines in the water. Even the mate was waving the white flag by ten after [literally; had a white rag tied to the gaff and was waving it in front of the wheel house]. He no sooner put it down and my rod tip started bouncing. Bottom line, the pool fish came on deck on my hook in what would be considered overtime. So, needless to say, I'm not going to have much of anything bad to say about him. And besides, when you're able get on board with Butch at the helm, he is considerably more entertaining, not to mention that he too really knows what he's doing.
As I don't have a boat of my own, I have to rely on someone elses if I want to be on the water. So, whether it was out of Cape May, Fortescue, Bowers Beach,DE. or anywhere else that I've been, I can say that I have only had one of what I would describe as a bad experience with a captain. And even then, I'm not even going to think about coming to a forum such as this and rip him apart. I simply have decided to no longer give him my business and be done with it.

I don't understand why anyone would come on a public forum and bash a party boat that has such a great reputation- obviously they are not real fishermen!!! Captains don't hit a home run on every trip, if they did it would be called catching and not fishing. I personally know all the captains and mates on the Chris and they are all very, very good at their jobs!! If you have a problem with a captain or a mate, confront them in person, don't blast them on a public forum!! It's not an easy job to find keepers in the rips this time of the year, but if there's fish to be found they will find them!! Good fishing to all and Happy Holidays! Dennis the Margaritaville

MG,
You don't seem to have a problem 'blasting' in a public forum...not a real fisherman!
My point is still not having any interaction with a captian in an 8 hour day! I stand by it. I've been out several times and have'nt caught one yet this year, barely a bite. No reflection on the captian or the fisherman.
I could continue to blast away but I won't...not for lack of ammo. I do wish I could talk to him personally, but he doesn't seem to care.
I HAVE CALLED. Another bad impression left.
Someone asked...I responded...simple as that.
BTW, he beat the Seastar to the dock yesterday when it should be the other way around!
I call them like I see them.
I'll simply take my business else where.
Nough said.

I have fished on the Miss Chris more than once and have found the entire crew to be helpful and courteous on all occasions, this includes captains as well as mates. If you are considering a trip on the Miss Chris the average price for an 8hr. trip is about 50 dollars. If you want a FREE TRIP just ask Chris the MATE what N.F.L. team is his LOCK BET and------bet 50 dollars the OTHER WAY!!!!

I go out from that dock all the time. Capt. Bob on the "Sea Hunt" is good. He takes you to the fish and if you can't catch them it's your fault. Those guys are all good. Let them alone:mad:

I fished on the Miss Chris friday for an 8hr trip for $48. We fished the DBay with about 12-15 different drifts resulting in 3 keeper bass, 0 throwbacks, one big blue and about 2 dozen doggies. Oh yea, bring your bait or else you will have to buy some from the shop there.

Maybe this question is a little off topic but you guy's seem to know about the Capt's down in south Jersey.
Years ago (1978-80) I used to drive from Upper Darby (WBP) to Wildwood crest and catch the Holiday out of Blake's Doc every Wed. Night for Blue's. We fished 5FB. Capt Buck (Bucky) was at the helm and Jimmy Schetti (spell) was the mate.
What ever happened to these folks? I enjoyed my trips out and thought somebody here might know where these guy's are now.
As always, thanks for the info...

Capt Bucky passed away several years ago. Capt Jim owns and operates the Starlight and Capt Ron former owner of the Holiday now owns the Whale Watcher in Cape May.

My friend and I have been fishing with the miss chris since we were middle school - we're now seniors in college. Its hard to get out and get a personalized fishing experience on a budget. I been out on probably 3 or 4 striper trips with the miss chris, and I dont have a keeper (or fish, or bite for that matter) to show for it. Even so, the sucess I've had on other trips with them has been good. Sometimes the fishing just sucks, plain and simple. I still think that the miss chris does the best job of any of the party boats I've been on...and the mates, as a lot of you mentioned, are always good. I always ask if the fishing is good, and they'll let you know if its not, but a bad report wont keep me away - the fish HAVE to suddenly turn on sometime. If the bankroll allows, get a charter. Otherwise, the miss chris is a good choice. Just get there early and get near the front of the boat...the diesel engines are pretty noisy and seems to make fishing from the back of the boat less productive in the shallow water. Its a bummer watching the guys in the front kill the fish while I give my eel a bath

I am sure you saw my earlier opinion that the Miss Chris stinks. I will tell my story and let you decide. A fellow Barner and myself scheduled a offshore wreck trip with the Miss Chris years ago. It was not Capt Fred Ascoli but the original Captain. It was more like a jewish name like Burnstein or something. It was in March and a gale SW wind was forecasted. All the other party boats cancelled as well as the Big Jim which was a much larger 100 ft boat. The Miss Chris would not cancel so he would not loose the fares and took us out anyway. There were 7-10 foot seas and the boat was taking a pounding as well as the customers. My friend and I knew it would be this way so we set up shop in the rear of the boat. Finally after about an hour and a half we set up anchor in horendous conditions. I ask the mate how far out we were and he said about 50 miles. Well being an experieced boater I knew he was full of it mainly because I could still see LAND! After about 2 hours of getting our butts kicked and not one fish being caught the captain gets on the loudhorn and says, "lets end this torture and go in". We go in and they hand us a free coupon for a free 8 hour bottom fishing trip for the summer, which at that time was a 30 dollar trip. We had already spent $75.00 for our offshore wreck ticket and got no refund. He should have never gone out and they outright lied to me saying we were 50 miles offshore when we were no more then ten miles off on a wreck devoid of fish. One of the other mates felt so bad about it that he gave us 2 sacks of clam bait to take home. It was a total lie and ripoff. and I have never set foot on his boat since.

And its always been and still is about the bottom line on the ms chris. I've seen other Capt's turn fisherman away because they were 'full'...enough of a crowd on the boat. Not the chris, will take up to her CG passenger limit if they come with no concern for the comfort and conditions for the fishermen.
As someone pointed out...they'll be the first one's to 'raise the white flag' and come home early. I'm talking striper fishing here! If you get one or two successful drifts in a long day you've made it a successful trip! I don't fish with anyone not willing to take that one more drift trying to make it happen!
My bottom line is...I don't see the work ethic on the chris. He's not willing to look for fish when the fish are hard to find. Just brings his newspaper and he's not seen all day.
