Just need some advice...
Is there any issue with fishing outside the 3 mile line for blues? I'm not looking for some lame -arse excuse to catch stripers illegally. I actually really like putting a bend in the rod jigging for blues. I keep my boat in Avalon and often run to the rips. On the way down, i thought about stopping to fish on the 5fathom banks for blues - since i knew i'd be arriving at the rips at dead slack tide. Obviously, i couldn't / wouldn't try this on the way home if i had any stipers onboard and I've never kept an illegal striper in the past. But with all the warning from my tackle shop guy, i'm a little concerned that i'd get the hassle from the coast guard just for having some eels onboard.
I think the rule is, you can't "target" or possess and stripers in the eez. Does this mean no jigging for blues in areas where stripers would possibly be caught?- that would be a bummer - ...and again - I"M NOT LOOKING FOR EXCUSES...just alittle clarification
