I have a couple of the Boca models 50 and 60 size. i have fished them for a week now and I'll tell you, they are right nice. They have a ceramic drag setup and I have not used any spinners with a smoother drag. Heck, they're even pretty. They also have a titanium bail that is so tough that if you bend it out of shape, it springs right back. Another great thing is that they don't have bail springs but use 2 magnets to flip the bail. Hey, no more broken bail springs. Not a bad deal. I have them on Quantum Blue runner gold med heavy rods that are 7' long. It is a really great setup and if you can judge from the customer's feedback, they love them.

I believe that they are as good as any and better than most reels in the price range. Cost is somewhere around $100 or so. I think that Capt Tate's has them and East Coast Tackle as well. and they are worth a look. Hopefuly I will be beating them up tomorrow since the weather seems to be OK. Not sure about Friday though.

Steve,

I heard they were nice! I'm thinking about trying one out! I think that I can get them from the same place that you got them! I'll ask Jeremy! Thanks for the post and see ya tomorrow on the water! ;)

I liked them so much I just started stocking the full line as an official Quantum Dealer. Stop by the store and take a look.

NICE - I have been waiting to hear the word on them.

I've had several quantams before (freshwater bassin) and they always held up.

I bought the Cabo PT 40 series this spring and have used it each and every trip this year. It is my favorite reel now but is taking a whooping after 100 trips. I put this reel to the test, fished very hard and I've been real happy with Quantum.
Its still in working order but not like it was when I bought it. We'll see how good their customer service is soon as I will be sending it in for repairs. No regrets, I will buy a few more for next season.

i wasn't happy with the blue runner series and moved up to the same boca 50 and 60 model. they are very good all around reels.

These were my pick for nicest reels at last year's outdoor show in Atlantic City. I was skeptical about how the magnets would hold up under eel go, salt spray and other gunk you typically get during striper season. (Don't forget, the reels are made by Zebco, they are just tagged as Quantam's.) Sounds like the magnets are not an issue. Far26 - how are your magnets holding up?

MY BLUE RUNNER got groves in it from Power Pro - it is sitting in a box with about a half dozen fried Shimano spinners.

Magnets are fine, I think we may see the other reel manufactures start putting them in their spinning reels.
I maintain my reels faithfully, after all these trips my rolling bearing on the bail has seized and the reel has lost that new feeling (not as smooth even after a good lube).
The reel has been fished in the toughest conditions and dunked a few times while wading.
Bridge fishing is also tough on reels as any Shimano I've had never lasted a whole season.
Have to consider I fish a lot, a month of fishing is probably equal to a year for the average fisherman. The reel has taken over 400 stripers, 200 weakfish, lots of flatties, and tons of bluefish.
I've used other Quantum products and was not happy at all with the reels. They've got something with the new line of PT reels though.
It's fair to say I got my monies worth! smile.gif

I bought one of the PT models for my wife earlier this summer. Seldom do I get a chance to use because she loves it: very smooth, nice drag and bail systems. I highly recommend them.

Capt. Steve, I see that you let anyone on your boat! I recognize that funny looking guy in the blue sweatshirt holding the striper. Glad you caught em up- see you in the rips soon! Dennis the Margaritaville
