I know this has been asked before. I know that most of you have already posted your favorite ways to catch them. But there are alot more new members now and I would like to ask them. If you have posted before on how you like to catch them and you wish to post again, please post, I want to know.
I have so many ways that I like to catch them. Well there certainly isn't anything like going through a rip on your first drift of the morning just as the sun is rising and having that line ripped off your finger when using a eel.. God I love that!
I also enjoy bucktailing the rips very much. Nothing like that bump that just stops you from reeling.
I have to say one of the coolest ways to catch stripers is on live adult bunker. It's so cool to see that bunker on top of the water stressing, just knowing that there is a big bass down there looking at it.
But by far my favorite way to catch the finest inshore gamefish that we have in NJ. On a popper from the BEACH/JETTY. Nothing beats seeing a busting bass all over your lure. I could do it for days and still get the same excitment one the 100th,just as I did on the 1st. Top water SH*T rules!!!!
Give me what ya got.... I wanna pick some brains, and see if there are anymore cool ways to get them to bite.. Please feel free to post..

Never caught a bass that I didn't enjoy. Every method is fun and has it's place. Anymore I really enjoy catching them on the flyrod. You have to work harder and you don't get as many (unless they are surface feeding) but I enjoy the feel of pulling next to no weight and having to use you hand as the drag untill the line is on reel. Now that the water is getting cold, eel clam or bunker on a light rod can't be beat.

Second would be bucktailing. Third parachute jiggin.
This may change next spring as bought a kayak. I'm hoping to hook up with a 35 pound plus bass and go for a ride http://www.thebassbarn.com/ubb/smile.gif

From the surf, in June, when the water is just turning warm enough to wade into it in shorts - the whole summer is ahead of us with beautiful days at the beach - all methods, and throw in some night time jetty fishing as a side dish - MAN, I MISS THE WARMTH OF SUMMER!!!!

Well, technically, it really isn't my favorite, because I've never caught one this way:
But I would like to land a HUGE Striper in the surf, all alone, on a beach, in the middle of the night. I guess a popper or lure would be the coolest way; but I wouldn't know about that http://www.thebassbarn.com/ubb/wink.gif
Soemthing about seeing that big cow head as I struggle it in past the last wave. Then grabbing it out of the wash. Yeeeehhaaaaa.

I have 2 favorite one daytime one nightime.
My favorite daytime is having one explode on a pencil popper. my favorite nite time is casting out a surface plug using a slow retrieve so plug swims on or near surface than having one follow it all the way in and at the last minute explode at my feet and scare the crap out of me

Ahhh, rugs.
They do that alot there, don't they! Sometimes when your by yourself you can just feel one chasing your lure and you know its going to hit, but it still scares the ever living sh*t out of you anyway. I love it!

HAHAHAHA!!!!!!
Scare the crap out of you is right! That happened to me earlier this year fishing with a friend in the OC backwater.
As far as my favorites the only topwater fish I had a night so I didn't get the full effect.
I love catching them off a jetty with rain, stiff wind, and rogues rolling over back, with a swimming plug. Number one reason is cause usually I am the only one out there http://www.thebassbarn.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

Live lining a bunker on a jetty end at 8AM with the bright sun in your face and the ocean like a lake, almost asleep on your feet from chasing bunkers half the night, and having a four foot log of a bass explode on your bait throwing water in every direction as she eats your bunker. As good as it gets......better than a defribulator.

There is only one way I like to catch them and that is on a surface popper either in my boat in the backwaters or in the fall walking the surf. Got one tonight by the way while fishing the backwaters behind Margate.
Bait fishing either live or dead sucks. Been there done that.
I would much rather catch shorts on a popper than 30 to 40 pound fish on bait. I'm funny that way.

I like to put a big old size 8 gami circle hook with a 60lb test 30" mono leader and a whole surf clam. Toss it out in the water and sit and wait for the sound of my drag screaming from my reel. Circle hooks are great, takes the fun out of setting the hook but, I'd rather see a nice fish hooked in the corner of its mouth than gut hooked. Nothing beats letting one of those beaties go back into the water to catch another day.

Anyway and anyhow, although nosing into some birdplay in oct. or nov. with a bucktail and plastique on a light rod is a beauuuuutiful thing. Haven't had the opportunity to try this yet, but will this year, got this out of Fisherman mag. Hook up a heavy treble, eg. a hopkins or a diamond jig and cast into baitfish. immediately upon hitting the water tighten the line, and snap your rod down and foul hook baitfish and just let it drop until the cow comes home.
