Heading down to Hatteras next week for some southern rock fish. Talked with Capt. Don last night and he said fish are holding north with water temperatures still around 60 deg. in ocean off Hatteras. Fishing reports from Va. beach have been good with fish in the 20-40lbs classs. Let's hope fish start to move farther south. Can't wait to get back to OI. I'll post a report when we return.

Oh, and they have a saltwater license this year.

Skip, do you need one if you are going on a Charter?

In the ocean it's 2 @ 28, no fish past 3 miles. Bays are different because it's a breeding area.

Ran down from squan to OI on New Years weekend. Big fish were THICK just south of OC, MD, readings but no takers off of Cape Charles, more fish near NC/VA border and tons of readings right off Kitty Hawk with a huge pod of finback whales and more than 100 porpoise.
Reports down there look like yellowfin bite is red hot, while bassin is hit or miss.

Last year we went mid-Feb right before the big snow storm which hit up north. Big fish were caught previous to the storm. Capt. Don had fish in the high forties both days before the front. The bite was off on Friday and wind and rain ruined our trip, but still had a great time. Fish and bait are holding north but Capt. Don works hard to get you fish.

Cold snap is coming. This will hopefully move the fish further South. I'm on the trip with Clamman. I had to stop reading the reports from Virginia. They're driving me crazy.
