Weather was looking good. Got up and looked outside. Thermometer outside said 20. Hooked the skiff up and Rich and I headed out. The plan was simple, run beach front and look for birdies, but just in case, bring some trolling gear. Headed out of G.E. inlet around 9. Went south. Froze are asses off. Ran without seeing anything. Got in the area of the Cuma lumps. Heard guys on the radio saying they had good action early with a mix of bass and blues. Also heard the CG made some guys toss there fish back:rolleyes: . We had the CG watching us, but we stayed on the good side and started to troll the streches. We picked up a quick 26" then a blue about 8lbs. Notice the cg drive into the working birds and circle around thru them, my thought is they were trying to scatter those fish or just put them down.
We continued to work the area. Dropping a couple of solid hook ups. Then we boated a nice 35" bass. we trolled a short bit more, but i was frozen to the bone and had a long ride back when your in a 17' skiff in the open ocean, so we packed it in. Still a fun time, and i'd do it again in a second. Just gonna have to get something a little bigger to ride.

WTF was the deal with the CG? You were inside the EEZ and in the ocean so perfectly legal. Throw fish back inside 3 miles???? Running across the birds???? WTF??? 2 big thumbs down to those guys. 2 big thumbs up to you guys for putting meat in the box!!

Hey guys listen to this, there is a guy that my cousin and I buy bunker off for stripers and he goes out to gill net them every day in his 16ft. v-hull aluminum bout by himself:eek: . You should see him coming in. He fills the boat up with some much bunker he can hardly move in it. One time he had so many it looked like he was going to sink:eek: . Talk about hardcore.

The guys who had to throw back fish were 4 miles out. I was there also, but I had no bass. The bite where those fish were ended just before I got there. I had just left that area to go toggin when the CG showed up. It was glass flat most of the day. Glad George had fish.

Just to set it straight. The lump we were fishing is part inside 3, part outside 3. CG was there to help with the line;) .We stayed inside and trolled up the fish.
On days like this, piss on a dish sea, I'll run as far out as my fuel will carry me. I've been out 10-12miles without sweatin it. Just have to make sure the forecast is perfect, and even then, i do get caught on occasion.
Aimless, I heard you on the radio and was gonna give you a shout, but it sounded as though there wasa a goood bite southeast of us, and i thought you might have been there.

We were a couple miles off AC the other day and the big orange bird was patroling the line. I was really glad to see them in case there is any trouble. The ocean in January can be a very dangerous place. Those guys don't just mess with you to mess with you. They are very professional and deliberate.

A red and white 25 was the most productive. the blue/silver 30 had a couple. I trolled at 2.3-2.8 knts. I saw a couple other guys going to fast.
I just saw the long range forecast, not good.
If anyone wants company, I'd be happy to share fuel bill and knowledge:D .
