I had a question about chunking in the back bays? I am heading out sun morning in a 16' aluminum with a 25 horse so i wanted to stay in the back bays. I was planning on clams and fresh bunker. I wanted to have both in case the first choice doesnt work out. Any recommondations on a location or technique. Any advice would be helpful it is the first time going out in the boat for striper. I usually surf fish. Also can I use any lures in the boat like shads or plugs? Thanks for any suggestions.

the best advise i got when i asked this same questions were to find a hole off a sod bank and anchor up...if nothing in a hour find a new hole..hope that helps a little

Is there an echo in here??
Find deeper water 25' or more - that is tough to do without a depth finder. Find a hole near the sods when the tide is moving.
For clams, mix them with the water you are fishing and spoon the stinky water out without throwing too many clams. Use the stank to get the fish close and the meat to hook them.
Give it about an hour. Look for good signs such as minnows in the clam slick.
Give a call over to the No-Bones tackle shop and talk to Fred ask about some clam bellies and how and where to use them .Fred is always full of info for the the new guys .609-522-3017
last year around this time we had fish like these almost everytime we used the bellies.

Hey capt., if your out early, try sneaking in to the banks with a popper or bucktail/worm combo. A half dozen casts before throwing the hook might tell you if it's worth it. I prefer creek mouths. most have a decent drop off right inside. Good luck.
