I've known Capt. Don for about 20yrs. He is one of my best friends. Sometimes you just have to part ways so to speak. Times are changing & I know he is doing what is right for him, at this time.
Over the years I have worked deck for him quite a bit & have been through it all with him. He even gave me "THE SHIRT OFF HIS BACK ONCE"! I'm sure some of you know what I'm saying here. ;)
I'm sure he will be fishing on My Corona next spring. That will be kind of different! I'll be putting him on the MEAT for a change. Lord knows, I owe him a few! ;)

It's a shame. Gotta' be tough trying to make a living with a boat that big inshore. Fluke at 17 inches, the weakfish are basically on the down cycle, seabass closures, tough to fish small rips with that many people and other boats, tog closures, etc etc and on and on it goes. the way it looks it will be more of the same in the future. Any downturn in a fishery results in more restrictive regs and they never get those fish or customers back. It seems fishing will be comprised of smaller charter boats in the future who specialize more. God help the industry if they start to lose the bass, but that is predicted to happen just like in other fisheries.
ut oh I developed diarheaa of the mouth gotta go.

Leaving that boat will let Don keep his sanity,I have also known Don for a long time and I think he is the best Party Boat Capt. in S.Jersey,I wish him luck in anything he does and he is always welcome to fish with us.If it wasn`t for Don I know myself and Skippy wouldn`t know squat about fishing the Rips.We spent alot of time in the wheelhouse between drifts learning how to read the rip and set up drifts,he even taught me Roadrage on the water :D

question,
who is running the miss cape may now?

Phil,
You don't know how right on the money you are. You will be keeping your boat down south all year soon. Many boats will be headed to Del, NY, and Maryland sooner than you think. HAPPY DAYS.

come on john
you'd love a bigger boat that way you can get your arse kicked when you take a boat load 25 miles off the beach then have customers say you didn't have to go that far, that it was a boat ride.........
come on now, "you could really peg the fun meter"

I used to ride the old Big Red boat twicw a week before we got our own boat, and I learned a lot from Capt Don. I don't know what he's doing for now, but I'd bet he'll popup on the water somewhere, fishing is in his blood. Good Luck Don, I hope you find what you're looking for.

has to do what he has to do
the way the fishing was this striper season you gotta sometimes cut and go till the fishing is better bad weather win$$% slow crazy tides no stripers = no money coming in need to put food on table for himself and others cant do it when you cant fish
Good luck don whatever you do hopefully we will see you in the spring... in the big red boat...... in the meantime...
anytime ya wanna fish i will be the capt for ya you got me onto fish enough smile.gif

Man, that's a real bummer, the Miss C.May was the only headboat I would fish on!! I have my own boat so I only fished with Don about 4 times a year, but I will miss it :( :( I had my best Striper day ever on his boat. Hey Capt. Don, if you read this, GOOD LUCK in what ever you do, you will be missed. fishpole(Leon)
