Been a while since I posted cause I haven't been out, however today the new boat went in, and the big fish came out to play. Set up by 6 am , dropped baits in the water, and waited. About 30 minutes later first rod took off and it was on! 5 minutes later and a nice 36 incher in the box. Set up again and 15 minutes go by, and bang were off again. This fish fought good, and after 10 minutes we drop a 48 incher, 40lber in the box. My personal best and a fish I've personally been waiting for for a lifetime! Set up again and 20 minutes goes by and we fought another beauty, a 40 inch 30 lber. She was full of roe so she got let go. Had 2 more run offs and wanted to beat the storm which was a brewin', so we picked up around 10 am and headed on out. What a way to christen a new boat. Feels good to be back!! I don't know how to post pics otherwise I'd have em up for all to see, sorry. http://www.myfishpix.com/gallery/data/2/40_lb_striper003.jpg

Great report. I admire your release of the 40 incher. Not too many people would do that.
Congrats.

It wasn't too long ago when I would of kept that fish no matter what. I guess as you get a little older you get a little wiser and finally realize we have to protect these fish at all costs. One fish that size is plenty of table fare for anyone, and I like it fresh, not frozen, so I only keep what I can eat in a day or two. Looks like I have alot of eating to do. Anyone interested in dinner?? Heh Heh....

Great report, nice job. Glad to hear you released the 40" filled with roe. Most people would have kept her, nice thinking for the future. Besides you got pictures, right?
Hope someone can post them for you, I'm gonna cut and paste them with my head so I can say I got a 40". Just kiddin, great job.

Bailboy -- NICE fishing! And, no doubt, I commend you on throwing back "mama-to-be" and supporting the future of these striped beauties. You certainly debuted the boat in perfect style.
FYI -- I'll be writing a post asking for advice on "setting up" as you describe it, so I hope you'll send me a response. The bottom line is this: I've been dragging eels through the rips for years, and sometimes I'll use bucktails. However, I think that I've finally had enough of those slimy little b*stards -- I've been striper fishing three times this year and have NO FISH to show for it. It's just time to try another method -- and yesterday's world-record-setting tangle of three lines (and three eels) was beyond aggravation. Thanks for letting me vent!

How do you tell if "She was full of roe" I'd let them go too if I could tell.
