We are planning on running a few night trips drifting eels on the Rips for the really big stripers around the new moon, June 6th. Most of these fish are well over 20 lbs and we have had fish up to 47 lbs in the past on these trips.
We are looking at June 5,6,7 & 8 now with some nights two trips. These fish feed only at night and usually we find spike weakfish in their stomachs. Some years the bite lasts up to two-three weeks and starts in late May if the water temperatures at the mouth of the bay is warm enough. Around the new and full moons are the best times with the hard running tides. It has not been very good the last couple of years but before that we had some great nights in June on big stripers. If the fish are not there then we will cancel the trips and return the deposits. We drift eels and live bait but live bait does attrack sharks and these are ones with teeth. We limit the catch to one large fish per person and after that it is all catch and release. We limit the charters to 4 or 5 people because often we hook multiple fish on a drift and in the dark it is tough to control these big stripers while drifting and lines do get crossed. If there is a decent bite then we will add some additional dates in June or even late May if they show up early. The cost of a trip is $600.00 to Bass Barners and $675.00 to the general public. You are welcome to bring a 6th person along but we will only fish 5 lines so someone will have to take turns. We may offer a slight discount for Bass Barners with small parties of 3 and 4. contact us for details or visit our web page at www.cavemansportfishin.com (http://www.cavemansportfishing.com)
