View Full Version : OBX Fishing
Just returned from 2 days of red hot fishing out of Oregon Inlet. Timed it just right between storm systems. Captain worked hard to find them, but put us on the bite. Between my son & I, at least 80 to over 100 fish for the 2 days. All fish over 20 pounds and most in the 25-35 pound class. Here is a picture of the big one. 51.5 lbs on 10# test.

What boat did you fish on?
Yes, bunker were there once we found them. a little further south than anticipated. The fish were gorging themselves. A few of the fish we kept had up to three 12-14" bunkers in their stomachs. Unreal. I should mention also that I released the 51.5#er. After a quick weighing, back in the water, revived and swam away healthy. What excitement though. I was using the light stuff trying to hit some smaller fish (by comparison) that showed on the surface. Bent the hook on my swim bait[Chesapeake Bay Bait],but my early trip present to myself performed awesomely. A Cape Fear Rod/Penn 965/10# Yozuri Hybrid. Can't resist another picture. One of my son's larger fish. Kudo's go to Captain Reese of Beach Bum Charters.

Very cool JYD!
I was down there in the middle of Feb...And we absolutly crushed them as well! We fished aboard DOA with Captain Donnie Davis. The fishing down there is great!
Capt Skip- We fished alongside DOA most of our 2nd day. He was solo, but worked very well with our captain to locate the birds and put us on the fish. Heard some hilarious stories about Capt Donnie from Reese and Aaron on Rock Solid. Great place to fish and while we were there we only saw one other private boat each day we were out. I know it's the dead of winter, but I only know of 4 charter boats that were out where we were and like I said one private boat. If I lived there I would be out all the time.
