How do you guys tie your blood worm rigs...hooks, knots, etc.??? It will be my frist year experimenting with bloodworms.

Josh, alot of guys use top/bottom rigs, by making droppler loops in the leader, keeping the distance from the leader to the hook short, like 6-10 inches.

I always use a fishfinder for bloodworm fishing for stripers. I keep the leader shorter than I would for chunking or clamming in the Del bay, but I adjust the leader length to see what works. I've always had more success with the fishfinder rig than the top/bottom, but used both on occasion.

I've gone with bloods early with sucess. Down through the head out the side and back in Texas style. Keeps the junk off the hook. Single hook,fishfinder,18" leader with a split shot or bead, 8/o hook works fine if the worms are nice scale down if not. Stripers have big mouths Even shorts. The first striper landed on my boat was on such a rig off the coast guard grounds by the turn can. It was about this time of year so there was no boat traffic. You wouldn't want to sit there once the season gets into high gear;) though.

2 droppers and I use Mustad #4 baitholders.

Try Eagle Claw Circle baitholder hooks. They are a red thin wire circle hook that come in sizes 2/0 - 7/0. The only place that I found that carries them is Bob's Bait and Tackle located in East Falls in Phila. on Ridge Ave.
Give them a try, you get a clean hookset and w/ the baitholder feature the worm stay on securely.

Gami J style baitholders 4/0, they help keep the worm on alittle. I normally fish with Gami Octopus for everything just in different sizes so I've used them too.

I like the red colored hooks too, I use them alot too and have good success
