Been using octo`s for years,why are short shank hook`s used on pre tied bass rig`s?Thank`s.

I assume you mean the bronze hook used on the Fin Strike #753. This was one of the first popular eel hooks but favor has gone on to using Octopus style. The Fin Strike #753B uses the Mustad 92553BL which is an octopus style hook which is by far the most popular commercial rig.

The Gamakatsu Octopus hook is by far the most popular hook and Fin Strike and others are making pro rigs using these hooks.

My new eel favorite is the 2304 series finesse widegap which is lighter weight and shorter shank which will allow your eel or any live bait to swim more naturally.
