Too tired too post a detailed report, well here it goes. Man oh man were the flats on fire today. Launched at daybreak and had great top water action for 1st 2 hrs of the day, most fish in 4-6 lb range and a couple 8-10's but friend I was fishing with hooked into a real big fish that took drag for 45 sec or so and somehow spit the hook on him, Never saw the fish but from the explosion it was a real big fish.

I had a couple big blow ups real close to the boat but no hookups, but had so many swirls and blow ups that just made it really fun even though we wernt hooking up on the big blow ups.

Bite slowed and made a move and caught a bunch on 5 in bass assassins and jerk baits and most 4-5 lbs, but some nicer fish mixed in..

Ran back to where we had action in the am and did real well on mostly 4-6 lbers but had several up to 10 lbs and buddy had another good one on for a bit before it came loose again. We were making long drifts & continued getting nice fat schoolies on just about evert cast for close to 2 hrs all on plugs.

Flats were muddy and debris ridden on west/south edge of the channel but was nice and clean elsewhere and 62 degree water temps..

Not many boats out today and had one of the best trips on the flats in 5 yrs or so. We didnt catch any real big fish but I'll take steady action on 4-5 lbers and a couple up to 10 lbs with some explosive strikes on top water any day.

Spoke with Bruce (Cisco) who was also having a blast and enjoyed talking with you Bruce and thanks again for the advice.

Today was a nice warm-up for a trip with Capt Ed on Thursday, looking forward to it smile.gif

Wow John doesn't sound like you need a guide to catch a mess of feeesh! I hope the blow/storm that rolled through here last night didn't kill everything for us on thursday. that bit of mud you saw is now mixed with the clean water all over the place. will take a day or so to settle down.
kenuloza - Susquehanna Flats are at the very top of the Chesapeake Bay at the convergence of the Susquehanna River and the Northeast River. In addition; the Elk, Bohemia and Sassafras (and C & D Canal) all dump into the top of the Chesapeake in the very close vicinity. Striped Bass stage in/around the "Flats" prior to spawning and travel through while coming and going from any of these river systems. Each spring we can count on their arrival and our DNR has allowed us a special Catch-n-Release season. At times, it's a good as fishing can get. All this week it's been completely off the wall, you can't really fathom HOT.

Hello John,
It was an honor to speak with you yesterday on the flats. Very happy for you in having a great day of fishing.

I stayed up north where I was popping 30" class fish on a consistant basis. Needed to go in and get some busisness done in the afternoon and had received several calls that evening about the "front" that moved through with winds that were said to be in the 50mph range.

Havoc was the words used to me in explaining how these winds affected the fleets. It was said that within 5 min the water was wipped up and "bowing" several smaller boats out there...

Glad to see you and we will talk again soon...

Thanks all, heard it got real nasty out there after we called it a day. Hopefully everyone made it backs safe but a reminder that the Flats can get extremely rough due to the shallow water especially when it blows up in a short period of time. Also had a chance to speak with Walleye Pete who we were fishing next to for a bit and was joking with him that George Poveromo picked a bad year to tape a show on the flats last year... Enjoyed talking with Pete and his customers were on some fish.

Ed - hoping we can still get out with you, talk to you later & thanks.

Bruce - pleasure was all mine, nice boat you have there. You should do some more fishing in the Del Bay after the C&R season comes to an end. Look forward to fishing with you again sometime.

Insanity - well Rocco, I've just about used up all my passes for a while so good luck on Fri and hope you catch em up. I hope to get a trip or two in b4 heading to Absecon.

Zenfold - I was on a friends 16 foot aluminum, I'm sure we crossed paths and glad you had some nice action. We werent keeping track but we had to have close to 100 fish yesterday. Nothing like getting them on jigs/plugs and top water in shallow water.
