I'm going to pick up some Devcon two ton epoxy today, if I can find it some where near me. I plan on thru wiring after a coat of epoxy. My question is with the gromets, can I put a coat of the Devcon on first and then pput the gromets in place as the epoxy is setting up? Will this hold them in place? Another question - Does a second coat of epoxy make sense? If so, should I sand, thru-wire and then put the second coat on? Thereby coating the gromets, tailwire washer and lip seams. I assume an acid brush is use to apply the epoxy.

Thats what I do. I epoxy, then place my belly grommet and eyes into the wet top coat. Only need one coat and keep it thin. I get my two ton at Walmart, $1.97. I use an acid brush. Do yourself a favor and recrimp the bristles in place with pliers and then get rid of anything that wants to come out of the brush. It will end up on your plug.

Thanks a lot. I had no idea that walmart carried the Devcon. The crimping of the brush is genius - I was worrying about making sure I got all bristles out right away. I'm off to Walmart. :D

After applying the devcon 2 ton, does the plug need to hang in a heated area? My basement is kind of chilly. Is applying heat to get bubbles out necessary?

Rhino, I see that the use of 2 ton is popular. I use different formulas for rod building. If you paint and the next day the finish still has a 'tac' or stickieness to it, it could be humidity in the basement. Basement dwellers!
Try painting one or two plugs somewhere else in the house where there is less humidity, and see if the finish doesnt cure better.
