short report for you, didnt leave the house until about 730 got to the ramp around 830 had to fuel the boat and what not, pretty cold conditions in the morning made me put on the dirtbike goggles as i wound up the skeeter, nothing big today from 9 to about 1230 we hit 13 stripers all on a hard plastic crankbait nicknamed the hot dog, discontinued lure in the early 90's but i have a pretty large stash. biggest went 33" the average was about 24-25" no hogs to speak of. :( maybe next time see what this storm has in for us.. lot of traffic out on the water today, and alot of guys going balls to the walls through fleets, makes fishing tough, but when its not happening pick up and move away from the traffic, youll be happy you did.

hey matt, it was slow out there for me today too. 1 fish on plastic on the south end at the end of low tide. strangely, i was fishing right next to a buddy who was catching fish nearly every cast for about 30 minutes, and even though i was duplicating what he was doing, i didn't get a touch. it was hit or miss there today for sure. did see capt ed robinson of bonus check charters at the ramp (stemmers run) said he had a good morning with one fish at nearly 50 pounds. been a weird season so far with the weather...

Slow pick for us today , but managed a few on soft plastics. Light breeze, flat water, water temps between 42 & 47, water clarity about 2 to 3 feet.
Fished water between 6 & 11 feet deep.

Had an awesome time as always. Boat traffic was heavy, but most were reasonable in running over fish carefully. One or two jerks, as is normal....

Barner spottings : Baystalker, Flyguy784, & Eelball ( I hope you guys enjoyed the day)

As for Barner sightings, rumor has it the late great GR8FUL is down there now trying to scare up a few bass. :)

I had a great maiden voyage in the yak 8 fish with 3 25 to 30lb. Fished with Eelball, Barrell, and I think the other guy’s name was Skipbytes. Everyone had fish and Eelball had a few nice ones also.

nice job baystalker nice pictures too, unfortunatley we didnt get into any real nice ones today, our second pass ended us pretty close to a trifecta of yaks, may that have been you guys? thats where we found quite a few fish and less active boat traffic. can i ask you guys how you work those soft plastic bass assasins, i throw them sometimes with a 1/4 and 1/2oz but i feel that when the waters cold just slowly pick up the rod tip and slowly progress, or do you guys work it like it was a stickbait, i have no luck on the BA's but those retired cordell spots have been working effectivley for the boat.

Hey baystalker,

You didn't have those pics on your phone. I was the hillbilly with the straw hat that helped you with your yak this afternoon.

Anyway I'm glad you told me about this site today. Hopefully I'll get a lot of helpful advice here cuz I know I need it.

Thanks again and nice fish.

WE found gold and pink yozuri mag minnows to be the productive lure yesterday. I got a dozn fish to 30+lb and missed or lost atleast another 20 fish:confused:  . Great day on the water, except for some boat traffic. Strange how some boats wanna circle you in the boats to see how your doing:mad: . Thanx.

I'll bet this week won't be the same as last.

You'll need a steel hull to get through all the crap thats going to be coming down river this week.

I think the fishery is going to be a washout till next weekend at the earliest.

As for Barner sightings, rumor has it the late great GR8FUL is down there now trying to scare up a few bass.

Yep, we went at the last minute after my friend, Al, called me at my son's morning soccer game.

Fished from 2:00 to ~6:30 PM aboard Al's 16' Starcraft aluminum named "Miss Audrey Lynn."

Ended with 10 bass for Gr8ful, and 4 for Al along with a couple of "longarm releases" for each of us. Our friend, Johnny, was also out on his "Byte Me" and he landed 3 while fishing alone. Action was not on fire, but it was steady once the crowds died down a bit. :)

Water temps were 49 degrees which made for some cold feeling and sluggish fighting bass.

All of our fish came on 1/2 or 3/4 oz. rattletraps, but we did miss a few fish early on using jigs. Most were small to medium bass, but I did lose one "Grande" that was pulling the boat around pretty good before it came unbuttoned.

Nice to start off the year with some "striped carp" pulling on the end of the line. Too bad, Mother Nature had to come around later that night to screw everything up for a while.:(

Hey, Bay Stalker.

Great job and excellent pix. I have a flats trip planned for this Wed. (yep, I'm the cock-eyed optimist). did you happen to throw any of your custom wood plugs? what was your go-to lure for that trip?

thanks,
dmb
