Went out on the Fishermen this morning out of Atlantic Highlands. Most of the boats acutually went out. Mostly fished the back bay, Buoy 11-A area and behind it, water temp 43-44, air temp high 40's, winds north at 15-20 knots but they eventually calmed down a bit, water depth mostly 25-30 feet.
The fishing was not quite as good as last Saturday, but we still caught some stripers. A very hard bite today. The stripers would hit once and that was it. They did not come back again, so if you didn't strike and set that hook immediately, there basically wasn't another chance.
We had 25 anglers aboard with only about 50 shorts brought up and only a few of those being slots, 1 keeper at the very end of the trip at 29", 1pm ish right after low tide.
Hopefully after this week's storm the water will warm up a bit so the bigger fish will move in.
