Very nice couple of fish!!! I see you were anchored, what were you fishing, live herring?

Nah, never anchor. That's just a bow line stored in the anchor locker. Drifting and casting Bass Assassins.

Great job, how were you rigging the Bass Assassins?

I use the special "Capt. Ed upside down" method. On jigheads mostly 1/2 to 3/4 ounce:

I fished regular BA greens and BA electric chickens Friday with some luck, will have to try the special upside down method next time.I will post to let you know how we make out once all this rain goes away and things clean up again. It was just getting ready to turn on and now this. :(

Hey, Captain Ed.
Awesome pix.
what is the advantage to the "Capt. Ed upside down" method for rigging the BAs? is the action more erratic?

Yea I think it has a little more wiggle with the hook coming out of the slot. Probably doesn't hold up as well but it works for me.

I've fished them both ways w/ hook coming out the slot and hook out thru the solid top. Somedays one way works better than the other. The hook thru the top usually lasts longer on the hook. If you usethe hook thru the top method, I like to make sure the tip of the hook is well exposed. When using the hook thru the slot method, some people like to Superglue the jighead to the leading edge of the BA.

How did you do overall- was the water muddy from the prior rain?

Nice report and fish Capt Ed, we casted all day with out a hit but hey thats fishin and thats why you have the "capt" in your name. Way to go.
We fished all over throwin plugs, rattle traps and bass assasins and was hoping we'd find some action with real nice visibility. We had 45.8 water temps up near the hospital and up to 49 down south around the border and near the fleet. We tried all over and decided to give the river a try up near Lapidum and had temps up to 49 and nice clean water and marked some big fish and no takers. Weird day for us, didnt see any bait or any fish caught all day. Prob should have stuck it out a little longer down south but had dinner plans so called it a day around 2:30.
Still a nice day on the flats but really concerned with this storm, I'm hoping its not over since it just started:rolleyes:  What do you think, how long till it clears up to catch em witout slinging bait:confused:

fishin very slow with the suspending xraps and cordell spot minnows did the trick for us.. verryyy slow. Capt ED where do you get those jigheads from, im trying to find some to match up well with the same color BA?

I thought revealing "spots" was a no-no on the Barn! shoot me an email and I'll give you some info, although it will all be changed now with this rain.
I like the BPS brand jighead from Bass Pro. I also use the Bass Assassin brand in the lighter weights like 3/8 ounce. Sharp strong hooks but really the barb is what I like. Conical as opposed to spikes. Most fish were caught with extremely SLOOOW presentation. almost suspended and still. We found the best bite in deeper water, 15 foot down. The big gal and most others caught on or near bottom. Had to go to 3/4 ounce jigheads in the p.m. when a little breeze picked up. When the sun was out we caught best on "opening night" after it got cloudy we found good old green chartruese to be more effective.

Thanks for the reply Capt and some good information. My mistake was we should have stuck it out longer down south and work the BA' slower as you mention, but wasnt in my boat... Oh well, maybe next time.
Good news did pick up my boat on Fri night so good to go after this storm blows through. Thanks, will be in touch;)

I had marked those fish mid-day but they wouldn't bite. That was at dead low tide. Came back to 'em after we got some water back in and they were more cooperative.
