Bad idea to drift?

Is it a bad idea to drift for stripers? It seems like most guys anchor up and let the fish run off the bait feeders. Will stripers hit baits that are drifting, or are you less likely to catch them that way?

It all depends. Most guys on the chunk anchor. In the rips drifting is your only option, other than bump trolling. Let the situation dictate what you do. On slow days I would try it.

if there aren't that many boats around anchored, you can drift. i have drifted clams and bunker chunks with very good results!

A drifting bait would appear more natural but you have to be sure that you were on the fish. Anchoring and chunking will bring the fish to your boat.
